Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder caused by differences in the brain. People with ASD often have problems with communication and social interaction, as well as restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests.


People with ASD pathway may also have different ways of learning, moving, or paying attention. It is important to note that some people who do not have ASD may also experience some of these symptoms. But for people with ASD, these characteristics can make life difficult.

 

Communication and interpersonal skills

Communication and social interaction can be difficult for people with ASD. Child - Human age, wave - gesture, child, happiness, looking at camera

Examples of social communication and social interaction characteristics related to ASD may include

 Avoiding or not maintaining eye contact

Unaccounted for up to 9 months

Restricted or repetitive behaviors or interests


People with ASD have behaviors or interests that may seem unusual. These characteristics or preferences distinguish ASD from conditions characterized by social communication and social problems alone. Examples of restricted or repetitive behaviors and interests associated with ASD may include

Focusing on parts of things (eg wheels)

Get angry at the slightest change

Has a repulsive interest

Tap, shake, or spin in circles

Has an unusual reaction to the sound, smell, taste, texture, or feel of things
