What is a DEXA Body Scan

DEXA Body Scan helps you go BEYOND the scale to understand the true make-up of the number you see. This can help clients create a healthier body-image relationship by understanding how much lean muscle, fat tissue, and bone make up their total body mass and where the highest concentration of body fat lies.

Considered one of the most accurate tests, the DEXA Scan is also helpful when evaluating levels of physical fitness.

The scan usually takes 6 to 10 minutes with a very low-powered X-ray. The entire appointment is blocked for 20-minutes, but scan time is usually no higher than 8. DEXA Body Scan can be used safely by clients who have Pacemakers, surgical metals, and other implanted devices. Our Dexa Scan is only available at our Fort Lauderdale Beach Wellness Center.

Dexa (DXA) Scan

A Dexa or (DXA) Body Scan can help you analyze your body's composition, bone density, and so much more. This low-range X-ray exam goes beyond a traditional scale to understand your body's true make-up.

One of the biggest points of evaluation is visceral fat, which is "hidden fat" that surrounds your vital organs. Too much visceral fat can contribute to secondary illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and hormonal imbalances.

The Dexa Body Scan can easily and accurately measure:

Body Fat

Lean Mass

Visceral Fat or VAT*

Bone Density**

* Visceral Fat readings may not be available for some clients with a high accumulation of body fat in their Abdomen. This is because the DXA is a very low-powered x-ray and it cannot penetrate through these individuals. A manual estimate (in pounds) will be provided according to area volume to the client on the day of their test.

** The DEXA Total Body Scan does NOT include the clinical evaluation for Osteopenia and Osteoporosis. The bone density information provided by the DEXA Total Body Scan includes a TOTAL density (strength) rating of the entire amount of bone tissue in your body and should NOT be used to aid in the diagnosis of fracture risk or bone health.

*** If you would like to add the clinical evaluation for Osteopenia and Osteoporosis to the DEXA Total Body Scan, there is an extra fee and a review session with a provider is required by law.

This 6-minute, low-powered X-RAY is recommended to be used 4 to 6 times per year in 60-90 day evaluation points to stay on top of your body’s physiological changes so that you can adjust your nutrition and fitness plans accordingly.

Want to learn more about your body composition? The DEXA Scan is one of the quickest and most practical methods available to learn more about your body providing an in-depth analysis of your fat tissue, muscle mass, and bone density.

These scans offer a more complete and accurate assessment compared to other exams. Considered one of the most acurated tests, it is also helpful when evaluating levels of physical fitness.
