Dental Implants vs Dentures: What's Right for You?

When a situation arises where you have to replace one or more missing teeth, one of the most known options we are aware of are – Implants and Dentures. A choice between these two is made based on affordable price, patient's preference in terms of comfort, and the health of their jawbone.

Both of these options have their advantages and disadvantages. Now, the common goals for both of these options comprise of: -

  • Helps you eat food you were not able to eat all this time
  • Supports your facial structure.
  • They improve your speech abilities and help with words you could not use properly.
  • You can smile with increased self-esteem and feel less self-conscious about your teeth.

Let's look into the detailed procedure for both of these processes to help one make better decisions while choosing a form of treatment.

Implants: -

An implant requires sufficient bone where the dentist can place screw-like implants attached with crowns as an outer covering. They are interestingly popular among adults ages 55 to 65, as implanting a whole new tooth Is more sensible for their age than attaching abutments to other teeth. This is done because there is no guarantee that the remaining teeth have the strength to hold the dental bridges.

A prosthetic root is implanted deep into the bone. The dentist will fit the top of the heart with a crown, but only after the bone grows around the post. It can take a few months for the root to get settled in the bone so that it gets ready to get attached with an abutment wherein the crown will be fitted. Sometimes the abutment Is placed as soon as the root is implanted. And finally, after the bone has grown enough, the height will be done then and there.

Dentures: -

There are two types of dentures – Full set and partial set. They are more prevalent among people who have more than one missing tooth; for example -

  • Someone who got into an accident and incurred an injury to their jaw
  • Old age people
  • Patients are suffering from tooth decay.

Dentures are easy to remove at any time of the day when they are not needed. They are an ideal option for patients with weak and unhealthy jaws. They can be attached to your mouth regardless of how much bone is in your gum. A prototype of the denture to be fitted in your mouth is initially produced in a lab. From there, it is sent to your dentist, who will further adjust its alignment according to the length of your teeth. Dentures are designed in such a way that they resemble your natural teeth and gums. They are bonded with the gums in your mouth with a specific type of adhesive like dental-grade resin, acrylic resin, etc. If you are looking for one, you can get great quality dentures in Calgary.

The cost difference between Dental Implants and Dentures -

Compared with the cost of maintenance and the fitting of both of these dental tools in your mouth, Dentures are much less expensive than Dental implants, e.g., Dental Bridges. Though the price of both of these treatment methods varies based on the location of the dentistry, you can find it at an Now that we explored the procedures and cost of both of these treatments, in the end, you have to decide what is right for you.

Even though dentures are more favored because of their cost-effectiveness and ease of removal and installation, it has some drawback that we should be aware of. If in any scenario, dentures are not fit with a suitable adhesive, they can slip out while eating or speaking. Dentures can also cause tooth decay or infection if not fitted properly.

With Dental implants, one advantage we have is that they lead to fewer dentist visits as they are fitted permanently. With dental implants, you don't have to worry about them slipping out like dentures. And they are more comfortable and provide a natural look compared to dentures.

Still, it is recommended that you should have a conversation with a trusted Dentist to decide what's right for you. There are some of the most experienced Dentists at CHV dental, a family care dental in Calgary.
