Which milling cutter should be used for milling stainless steel?

For working with stainless steel, carbide materials such as tungsten-cobalt fine-grained or ultra-fine-grained cemented carbide including TaC or NbC are ideal. Such examples are YG6x, YG813, YW4, YD15, and so on.

It is recommended to use vulcanized cutting oil or an extreme-pressure emulsion when milling stainless steel. A cemented carbide milling cutter for stainless steel should be used at a speed of 40–60 meters per minute. In order to prevent the cutting edge from entering the hardened layer and increasing the rate of tool wear, the feed rate must be larger than 0.1mm.

There are now two subsets of the Killer Whale line: the Carbide drills and the Carbide shape tools. Carbide drills, including the Carbide Straight Shank Drill, Carbide Flat Drill, Carbide, and Carbide Coolant Drills, are often used for high-speed cutting in challenging materials because of their high stiffness, excellent drilling accuracy, superior heat resistance, and higher abrasion resistance. Our carbide drills provide low tool-wearing rates, high output rates, and reasonable prices. Carbide is machined into a wide variety of tool shapes for use in a wide range of industries. Expert experts craft each carbide form tool from premium rod material. We provide contemporary carbide form tools as well as bespoke service to ensure we always fulfill the needs of our customers.

During a thorough examination of the completed job and the tool, I noticed the latter was showing signs of wear. You can’t afford to have those tools wear out after using them on two or three assemblies. So I considered an indexable tool, but they’re much more costly than the solid ones! So, you should create your own.

Several individuals have created such a tool and made the results available online. At the bottom of the page, you’ll find a few links. Important details were provided by them, and I am grateful (clearing of the insert for example).

Naturally, I begin with the 2D in Fusion 360; the TCMT-Inserts seem to be accurate. The dimensions of the milling tool (1102XX) dictated some of the parameters I needed to attain for the item to be machined. Examine it more closely: some trimming on the margins, and the base is clearly delineated (0.25 mm).

To achieve the highest possible levels of customer satisfaction and to fulfil the requirements of our end customers, we make it a priority at YIDA to strictly adhere to the most stringent quality control standards. In order to accomplish what we set out to do, we not only make use of the most advanced Auto-CNC machining equipment that Germany has to offer, but we also make investments in the ongoing research and development of carbide cutting tools by utilising high precision measuring equipment that enables us to meet the most stringent of standards. In doing so, we are able to realise our objectives.
