Global India Coronary Stents Market Overview

In terms of distribution channels, the India coronary stents market is dominated by hospitals and cath labs, which accounted for over 80% of the market share in 2020. This is because PCI procedures can only be performed in hospitals and cath labs, and therefore the demand for stents is highest in these settings. However, there is also a growing trend of patients opting for outpatient PCI procedures, which can be performed in ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs) or other outpatient settings. This is expected to create new opportunities for players in the coronary stents market, as they can develop stents that are better suited for use in outpatient settings.

In terms of regional analysis, the India coronary stents market is dominated by the northern region, which accounted for over 40% of the market share in 2020. This is due to the high prevalence of heart diseases in this region, as well as the presence of several leading hospitals and medical centers. The southern region is also a significant market, owing to the presence of several major cities such as Chennai and Bangalore, which have a high demand for coronary stents.

There are three types of coronary stents available in the Indian market - bare-metal stents (BMS), drug-eluting stents (DES), and bioresorbable vascular scaffolds (BVS). BMS are the most basic type of stents and are made of metal. DES, on the other hand, are coated with a drug that helps prevent the formation of scar tissue inside the stent. BVS are the latest type of stents and are made of a material that dissolves over time, leaving behind only the natural artery tissue.

Among these three types, DES are the most commonly used in India, owing to their superior efficacy and safety compared to BMS. DES accounted for over 70% of the total coronary stents market share in India in 2020. However, the market share of BVS is expected to increase in the coming years, owing to the growing demand for minimally invasive procedures and the advantages offered by BVS such as reduced risk of late stent thrombosis and the ability to restore natural vessel function.
