So when you cover the tooth completely, you provide an environment for repair, you cut off the nutritional supply to the bacteria that cause these cavities, and hence prevent the progression of the cavities under the crown.
Why Do We Need Biomaterials?
Your pulp/nerve is a living tissue. When we get that close to it, we need materials that would provide an environment conducive to repair. When we pack restorations/fillings so close to the nerve, the tooth will eventually develop an abscess or pus-filled cavity.
