Root Canal Treatment for Children in Pune || Best Root Canals Treatment for Children in Pune

Managing cavitated teeth for children has come a long way, and at Vanilla Smiles in Shivaji Nagar, Pune, we use advanced biomaterials and a better understanding of the process to avoid the dreaded and feared root canal treatment for children's teeth.

After a clinical and radiographic evaluation, we tentatively decide on the course of action for your child's cavitated tooth. Unless your child complains of spontaneous pain, pain at night, or has acute swelling, we can avoid the root canal treatment in Pune for your child's teeth by following a selective cavity removal technique.

Why Radiographs Are Important?

A radiograph helps us give a clear picture of the depth of the cavity, how close it is to the nerve, the position of the developing permanent bud, the restorability of the tooth, and more. However, an IOPA/Radiograph is a two-dimensional picture of a three-dimensional structure, and most of the time, whether to be conservative and do an Indirect Pulp Treatment (IPT) or go ahead with a pulpotomy treatment or complete the Pulpectomy root canal treatment procedure depends on the evaluation.

When Do We Do Root Canal Treatment for Children in Pune?

As far as possible, our efforts are to keep the tooth in its natural state, and IPT is one such procedure that provides an environment conducive to repair. However, while selective removal, if we see a red spot, which implies that the nerve has opened up, we may have to do a pulpotomy or a complete nerve extirpation or pulpectomy procedure.

What Went Wrong?

Ideally, let's not just treat cavities (DRILL n FILL) let's treat dental disease. In some cases, like the example of a four-year-old with secondary cavities, the primary cavities were drilled and filled, but due to a multitude of reasons, the tooth developed additional plaque built up and what we call a new cavity under the existing or dilapidated restoration (secondary cavities).

What is an Indirect Pulp Therapy (IPT)?

In indirect therapy, after the removal of old restoration and the secondary cavities, we are close to the nerve/pulp, but the nerve has not opened up, i.e., you don't see a red spot. Then the tooth is a good candidate for IPT. A preformed metal crown covers the cavitated milk tooth 360 degrees, avoiding any plaque/biofilm buildup, which if left in situ would cause secondary cavities. So when you cover the tooth completely, you provide an environment for repair, you cut off the nutritional supply to the bacteria that cause these cavities, and hence prevent the progression of the cavities under the crown.

Why Do We Need Biomaterials?

Your pulp/nerve is a living tissue. When we get that close to it, we need materials that would provide an environment conducive to repair. When we pack restorations/fillings so close to the nerve, the tooth will eventually develop an abscess or pus-filled cavity.

In conclusion, while root canal treatment for children's teeth in Pune may be necessary in some cases, it's best to avoid it if possible. At Vanilla Smiles, we use advanced techniques and biomaterials to provide an environment conducive to repair and keep the tooth in its natural state as far as possible. A thorough clinical and radiographic evaluation is a must to decide the best course of action for your child's cavitated tooth.
