Metal Coatings Can Be Created By Electroplating, Which Is A Versatile And Widely Used Process

Sometimes finishes are purely ornamental, such as on items we use indoors or in dry environments where rust is unlikely to occur. In order to make these products more appealing to consumers, a small covering of gold or silver is typically applied. The usage of electroplating is common in sectors like the automotive, aerospace, electronics, jewellery, and toy industries. An electrolytic cell is used in the overall Electroplating process, which entails giving a metal a negative charge before dipping it into a solution containing metal salts (electrolytes), which contain positively charged metal ions. The two metals are then drawn near one another by the negative and positive charges.

The Purposes of Electroplating:

  1. Appearance
  2. Protection
  3. Special surface properties
  4. Engineering or mechanical properties

Electroplating is a process of coating a metal onto another metal surface using electrolysis. This process is widely used in industries to produce high-quality metal coatings that are resistant to corrosion, wear, and tear. Electroplating is also used for decorative purposes, such as creating shiny and smooth finishes on metal surfaces.

The Electroplating process involves the use of an electrolytic cell, which consists of an anode, a cathode, and an electrolyte. The anode is the metal that will be plated onto the cathode, while the cathode is the metal that will receive the plating. The electrolyte is a solution that conducts electricity and contains ions of the metal that will be plated.
