He won the National Skateboard Association (NSA) championship twice, in 1987 and 1988.


Hawk was known for his outlandish tricks, which he would often combine to create complex, leaping stunts. After the Bones Brigade disbanded in 1990, Hawk went on to form a new team of his own, the 900 Club, named after the 900 trick he had one of the first to land in vert skateboarding competitions.
