Google Bard: What Is It and a Comparative Analysis with Chat GPT

Following the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google launched Bard, their own AI chatbot. By using up-to-date knowledge from the internet, the artificial intelligence chatbot can answer queries in a human-like manner.

Today, Bard is seen as a competitor to ChatGPT, which debuted last year. Let’s go ahead and explore what makes this AI model different from Chat GPT.

What is Google Bard?

Google’s experimental conversational AI chat service, Bard. It is intended to function similarly to ChatGPT, with the main distinction being that Google’s service will obtain its data from the internet. Another interesting feature of this AI model is that, like most AI chatbots, Bard can code, solve math questions, and assist you with writing needs.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, announced Bard on February 6 in a statement. Even though Bard was a completely new concept, the AI chat service was driven by Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), unveiled two years ago.

How Does Google Bard Work?

According to the business, Bard can assist with creative activities, clarifying hard issues, and generally condensing information from multiple internet sources. It can even handle more complex inquiries, such as finding meals based on the contents of your refrigerator. That is currently not possible with Google Search alone.

In its blog post on the chatbot, Google noted that we might use it to “learn more about the best strikers in football right now, and then get drills to build your skills” or “explain discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old.”

Aside from simple inquiries, you can also solicit opinions such as “Is piano or guitar easier to learn, and how much practice does each require?” Even for a human, these open-ended questions can be difficult to answer, necessitating at least a few minutes of investigation.

According to Google, Bard can reduce information from dozens of web pages into a few paragraphs. These responses may appear at the top of search result pages based on the photos and demos. However, like ChatGPT, you must visit a special page to access Bard.

Google Bard vs Chat GPT: A Comparative Analysis

Now let’s go ahead and explore how Google Bard differentiates from the AI model and features of Chat GPT:

  • Data Access:

The most significant distinction between Bard and ChatGPT is that Google’s chatbot has real-time internet connectivity. In contrast, ChatGPT only has access to text in training data acquired before 2021.

  • AI Integration with Non-Search Products:

AI integration with non-search Google products such as Android, Chrome OS, Gmail, Docs, and even the Chrome web browser is possible. Google has recently hinted about adding AI generation to Workspace and Gmail, but we are still awaiting additional information from the platform.

Nonetheless, with these interfaces, you could ask Bard to summarize websites and produce papers in apps, eliminating the need for copy-pasting. In contrast, the ChatGPT plugin is accessible with limited products only. You may also be able to engage with Bard using your voice, which ChatGPT does not allow.

  • Language Capabilities:

The other distinction is that Bard will give us our first taste of Google’s LaMDA approach. ChatGPT, on the other hand, has so far depended on some form of OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 models. Google’s model, on the other hand, may outperform it over time.

  • Conversational Responses:

ChatGPT and Google Bard are trained on datasets containing hundreds of billions of parameters, resulting in remarkably human-like responses. GPT-4 also has over 100 trillion parameters.

However, because Google Bard was trained on data with instant internet access and a more up-to-date library, it can produce more current responses than ChatGPT. For example, “What happened yesterday in Budapest?” Google Bard can provide multiple bullet points of recent news events. In contrast, ChatGPT does not.

  • Response Length:

Finally, Google’s Bard chatbot provides shorter responses to assist customers in locating what they’re seeking more quickly. So if you need to compose a lengthy essay or email, ChatGPT’s large character restriction may provide a better experience.

Final Verdict:

ChatGPT and Google Bard are free until you upgrade to ChatGPT Plus, and both AI chatbots are trained on big natural language models, so their responses are comparable.

Aside from its up-to-date information, Google Bard offers several features that set it apart. For example, you can obtain “draft” versions of the response, which includes several responses.

ChatGPT, on the other hand, has data and advanced functionality limitations.

However, it’s crucial to understand that both AI chatbots and human-like chatbots can be prone to error and bias.
