Properties of 347 stainless steel bar

347 stainless steel bar is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant alloy that offers excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion. It contains a balanced composition of chromium, nickel, and columbium, which provides exceptional stability and strength at elevated temperatures. The 347 stainless steel bar is commonly used in heat exchangers, chemical processing equipment, and aircraft engine components. It offers superior weldability and is suitable for both high-temperature and cryogenic environments.

Properties of 347 stainless steel bar

Corrosion Resistance: 347 stainless steel bar offers excellent resistance to corrosion, particularly in environments where intergranular corrosion may occur. It is highly resistant to acids, alkalis, and chloride-containing media.

High-Temperature Strength: This stainless steel grade maintains strength and mechanical properties at high temperatures. It can withstand prolonged exposure to temperatures up to 800-900°C (1472-1652°F) without losing its structural integrity.

Weldability: 347 stainless steel bar exhibits good weldability and can be readily welded using standard welding techniques. It is suitable for both fusion welding and resistance welding methods.

Stability: Adding columbium (niobium) in 347 stainless steel provides stabilization against sensitization and subsequent intergranular corrosion. This makes it an excellent choice for applications involving repeated heating and cooling cycles.

Chemical Composition: The typical composition of 347 stainless steel includes chromium (17-20%), nickel (9-13%), columbium (10x(C%) min - 1.0 max), and small amounts of other elements such as manganese, silicon, phosphorus, sulfur, and carbon.

Applications: 347 stainless steel bar finds applications in various industries, including chemical processing, petroleum refining, heat exchangers, boiler tubes, aircraft engine components, and exhaust manifolds. It is also used in high-temperature environments such as refineries and power generation plants.

Machinability: 347 stainless steel bars can be machined using conventional methods. However, it is tougher to machine than other stainless steel grades due to its higher strength and work-hardening tendency.
