Things to keep in mind while getting a rug for your sitting room

  1. Material: If you constantly have people coming to your place consider getting rugs made from jute, wool or synthetic fibre as their maintenance is easy
  2. Size of the room: Make sure to measure the size of your room as you don't want to make your room half done with either a small or extra-large rug in your living room, the purpose of having the rug in your living room is to make it look well put up.
  3. Colour: Having the knowledge of the right colour is very important as colour can play such illusion, if you have a tiny sitting room that accommodates a three seater sofa, for instance, consider getting a rug of lighter colour which also compliments the colour of your room of course, one advantage of using light color rug in the sitting room is their knack for creating a sense of spaciousness in a room. Opting for a light or neutral hue can give the illusion of a larger space. This is particularly beneficial when placing a rug in a smaller room or an area with limited natural light. In such cases, think about incorporating a neutral shade for the room. On the other hand, choosing a dark-coloured rug can lend a modern, cosy, and inviting feel to the room. However, keep in mind that dark rugs often create the perception of smaller spaces. For example, shades like charcoal, deep brown, or slate-grey can be fashionable choices. Consider darker hues for areas with heavy foot traffic, as they can help camouflage dust and minimize the visibility of wear and tear.

Although a rug is seen as a living room necessity, it is not limited to that alone, rugs can be most effectively placed in the foyer, living room, bedroom, kitchen, dining area, hallways, and under the stairs within a home.

Also, a key point to remember, a rug should cover enough space beneath a 3 seater sofa to allow the front legs to rest on it, and ideally, the back legs as well. To make the most of the benefits of rugs, it is recommended that the rug extends at least 6 inches beyond the sofa. Furthermore, if smaller pieces of furniture are involved, they should fit comfortably on the rug.

Rugs can serve various purposes within an interior space, whether it is for aesthetics, creating zones, providing comfort, or offering protection to your living room. A good rug has the ability to enhance and elevate the appearance and ambiance of a room. Rugs can make a striking statement, define distinct areas, and introduce color, depth, texture, and warmth. A well-chosen rug holds the power to completely change a room, leaving a significant impact that effectively unifies the entire space.
