is a city and the county seat of Grand County, Utah, United States. The city is in the southeastern part of the state, next to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Moab is a popular tourist destination, known for its dramatic scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities. The population was 5,366 at the 2020 census. The area that is now Moab was inhabited by the Archaic Indians, who lived in the region from about 8000 BC to 2000 BC. The Fremont people followed the Archaic, living in the area from about 2000 BC to 800 AD. The Anasazi people were the next to inhabit the region, living in the area from about 800 AD to 1300 AD. The Paiute people were the last indigenous people to live in the Moab area. living in the region from about 1300 AD to the arrival of European settlers in the 1800s. Moab is in the high desert of eastern Utah. The city is in the Colorado River Valley, at an elevation of 4,033 feet (1,229 meters). The surrounding area is characterized by mesas, buttes, and canyons. The Colorado River flows through the city. and the Colorado River and Green River converge south of the city. Moab has a hot desert climate (Köppen classification BWh), with hot, dry summers and mild winters. The average high temperature in July is 98 °F (37 °C), and the average low temperature in January is 28 °F (−2 °C). The average annual rainfall is 5 inches (130 mm). The economy of Moab is based on tourism. The city is a gateway to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, and it is also a popular destination for off-roading, hiking, and river rafting. Other industries in Moab include uranium mining, potash mining, and agriculture.
