How to extend the service life of milling cutters?

Milling cutters are one of the main consumables in milling and engraving production. Carelessness in handling cutting tools leads not only to quick damage to the cutters, but also to a sharp drop in the overall production level, and an increased risk of machine breakdown.

1. First of all, the workpieces and products being processed must be securely fastened to the machine.

2. It is essential to select the cutting tool in strict accordance with the processing conditions, the material of the workpiece, and the tasks. The geometry of the cutter, the construction of the chip removal groove, the type of processing (roughing, finishing, engravingmilling, 3D machining, etc.), as well as the material being processed - all of these are very important parameters for the proper selection of the tool. The correct tool guarantees a minimum level of vibration during work, which means the strength and integrity of the cutter are preserved, as well as efficient and clean chip removal, and the milling machine is protected from possible damage and impact.

3. Properly select the operating mode on the milling machine (based on specific production conditions) - otherwise, the wear of the tool will be rapid. Quality selection of the machine's operating mode prevents chip adhesion to the cutter - one of the most unpleasant phenomena in the milling process.

4. Ensure a suitable tool cooling system. Especially when working with hard materials (such as stone, metal, inorganic glass, etc.) - in this case, it is recommended to use air cooling.

5. Strictly follow the manufacturer's recommendations for cutting tool operation!

6. Keep the cutter clean (clean the tool from scale and chips in a timely manner).

7. In case of dulling of the cutting edges of the cutter or changes in its geometry, it is possible to sharpen the tool on specialized machines or even manually.
