Common uses include interior trim parts, bumpers, instrument panels, gratings, license plates carriers etc. Their recyclability makes them sustainable material choice.

Consumer Durables - Electrical/electronic items like casings for remote controls, power tools, laptops etc. use polypropylene compounds for their moldability and electrical insulation. Household products like containers, bottles crates, medical devices also employ suitably compounded PP.

Textiles - Monofilaments of polypropylene are woven into carpets, rugs that are durable and easy to clean. It is also used in fabrics, apparels where properties like moisture resistance are valuable.

Pipes and Fittings - Due to their corrosion resistance, compounds of PP are injection molded or extruded to make pipes, fittings for applications in plumbing, irrigation, sewage. PP-R random copolymers enable production of high quality pipes.

Construction - Polypropylene compounds are suitable for construction of geo-membranes, sound barriers, fencing etc. Their UV stability provides long-lasting weather resistant materials. PPboards are gaining popularity as affordable alternates.

Types of Polypropylene Compounds

Within the umbrella of polypropylene compounds, different types exist based on the process, fillers used and key properties. Some major types are:

Mineral Filled PP - Reinforced with minerals like calcium carbonate or talc at 30-60%, these provide stiffness, dimensional stability and heat resistance. Used in auto under-the-hood parts.

Glass Fiber Reinforced PP - Glass fibers increase strength, rigidity and dimensional stability making these engineering-grade materials. Suitable for chassis mounting brackets, instrument panels in under-hood applications.

Talc Filled Structural Foam - Low density microcellular foams reinforced by talc offer energy absorption properties. Used in instrument bezels, door panels, bumper beams etc.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced PP - Carbon fibers significantly boost stiffness, strength and heat deflection properties. Applied in automotive brackets, home appliances, electronic housings.

Impact Modified PP - Rubber or ethylene copolymer chains toughen brittle PP. Resulting materials exhibit high impact strength for uses like lids, caps, thin walled containers.

Specialty Grades - Grades focussed on UV resistance, hydrolysis resistance used in outdoor applications like utility boxes etc. Antistatic grades used for electronics equipment. Medical grades for implants. Heat stabilized grades for under-hood auto parts.
