The War on Peace – What Is The Ku Klux Klan?

Dressed all white, during a time when prejudice and hate ravaged America, loomed a group of people who were the fuel to all the fire burning a nation down. Terror spread like a monster without a leash, ravaging the innocents – a particular victim of this atrocity were people of color. However, where there is evil, there will always be good to rise up against it.

Let’s take a retrospective on the struggle of the people with the Ku Klux Klan.

Origins

What was the Ku Klux Klan?

The name is derived from the Greek word “kyklos,” which translates to “circle.” The Klan came into being in 1865 with one goal in mind: White supremacy in the South. Their white apparel became their signature trademark, followed by hoods to cloak their identities. The Klan enacted violent crimes to make a statement and impose their power. Their influence quickly spread in almost every Southern state by the year 1870.

Even though the Klan did not have centralized leadership, there was enough manpower to dismantle peace in the nation.

The primary victims of the Klan were African Americans.

Their heinous acts included lynchings, intimidation, and bombings. Their agenda was to spread fear throughout the nation, letting the people know who the “elite race” was.

Resistance

Of course, where there is evil, there will be good to rise up against it. The KKK was opposed by journalists and activists of that time, drawing attention to their acts. Awareness spread, and thus, the Civil Rights Movement was birthed as a form of resurgence against the Klan.

This act came to be due to the pioneering efforts of Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks, who fought against racial segregation. Their work brought about a tangible change in America regarding legislation and societal issues.

The Current Affair

Needless to say, the KKK has been terrorizing America for a very long time. Fast forwarding to 2023, there are still flyers circulating around the city, in residents’ driveways and lawns, sending a cold and dark message from the shadows that their fire of hatred still burns.

There still are pieces of fiction being written encapsulating the sheer terror that the KKK brings with it.

One can only imagine the turmoil the KKK’s victims went through in the past.

In Patricia Skipper’s book Deceptive Calm, we see the protagonist, Vanessa, share her traumatizing experience with the KKK at a time when racism was looming large, and justice was a lost cause. “Vanessa” is living in a time after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy, two personalities who worked diligently to make sure there was equality and inclusivity in the nation.

Vanessa’s story is a gripping example of the damage the Ku Klux Klan caused emotionally and physically.

Delve into her struggle as she finds a way to escape her past traumas… or does she?

Deceptive Calm by Patricia Skipper is now available on Amazon.
