Ms. Ruhani, a 28-year-old resident of Gurgaon, has achieved a remarkable feat by securing a coveted position within the top five of the highly competitive Civil Services Examination (CSE) administered by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This accomplishment signifies the culmination of her steadfast pursuit of a career as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.
Despite her commendable service as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Ms. Ruhani harbored a strong desire to transition into the prestigious IAS cadre. Over a sustained period, she meticulously strived towards this objective, encountering numerous challenges along the way. Undeterred by narrowly missing the cut-off marks in prior attempts, Ms. Ruhani demonstrated remarkable resilience and perseverance.
Who is Ruhani
Ruhani born and brought up in Gurugram is the first member of her family to venture into this field. Ruhani's parents, Suresh Sharma and Neelam, are both government school teachers.
Ruhani completed her 12th standard from Gurugram and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University. She further obtained a Master's degree in Economics from IGNOU.
Prior to her UPSC success, Ruhani had already cracked the UPSC exam twice. In 2019, she cleared the civil service exam and joined the Indian Economic Service (IES), where she worked for three years. She was also deployed at NITI Aayog for 2 years. Later, she joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) and was undergoing training in Hyderabad since November 2023.
What was her motivation behind choosing the Civil Service Path?
Ruhani's grandfather was a constable. It was her Grandfather who motivated her to become a civil servant . Ruhani is passionate about women's education, empowerment, and self-reliance. To further her dream of empowering women and other vulnerable section of society Ruhani dreamt to join civil services.
Challenges
The journey of Ruhani has not been an easy one. It was her sixth and last attempt where she achieved coveted fifth rank in the exam. Following several determined efforts, Ms. Ruhani's unwavering dedication materialized in her sixth and final attempt at the UPSC examination. Not only did she achieve an impressive rank, but she also secured a position within the coveted top five, guaranteeing her place as an IAS officer. Prior to embarking on the UPSC endeavor, Ms. Ruhani had already established her competence by clearing the Indian Economic Service Exam and assuming the role of Assistant Director at NITI Aayog.
However, her ultimate aspiration resided in serving as an IAS officer, prompting her to embark on the rigorous UPSC preparation journey. Despite encountering setbacks, including four unsuccessful attempts with marginal shortfalls, Ms. Ruhani exhibited unwavering resolve in her pursuit. Even while undergoing IPS training in Hyderabad, her unwavering passion for the IAS remained a constant driving force.
Role of ForumIAS :
Ruhani had been a student of ForumIAS for the last 2 years. She had joined Mains Guidance Program and Interview Guidance Program at ForumIAS . MGP had helped her to find her shortcomings and grey areas in answers and mentoring provided her help in rectifying these issues. This helped her fetching good marks and thus helped her achieving top rank in the prestigious exam.
