Transportation has made life easier for people. Now it is impossible for anyone, to think of life without transportation. May it be shifting from one place to another, shopping from the market, visiting the doctor, going out to party, etc. everything requires transportation. Logically thinking, transportation has become an essential part of a human life. Shipping of goods from one city to other or from one country to another has become a common phenomenon these days.

Perishable cargo transportation in general means transportation of goods, which are more likely to lose their natural quality, due to some conditions like extensive heat, humidity, extended period of storage or temperature variance. All the three modes of transportation, i.e., air, water, and land can be used for the shipment of perishable goods.

Conditions needed to prevent decay:-

There are some underlying conditions, which are helpful in keeping the product safe.

§ No exchange or minimal exchange of heat must be allowed from the vehicle being used for transportation.

§ A temperature between -12° C to -20° C must be maintained, this can be done by using a freezer

§ Refrigeration is also very helpful in keeping the products safe for consumption.

Modes of transportation:-

All the three modes of transportation, which includes air, water and land can be used for the movement of perishable goods. The invention of the wheel was the first step towards entering the world of conveyance.

§ Air: This is the fastest and best option amongst the three. At the airport, there is a different team, solely for taking care of perishable goods. This team ensures that the products are kept in proper temperature, they look after the assets and make sure that the products reach their destined place in an excellent condition. They give this service by the use of refrigerated chambers. Temperature can be varied manually by them. Fruits, vegetables, etc. are generally kept in these chambers.

§ Land: Transportation of perishable goods is widespread on land. There are two ways possible one land for transportation, they are by road or by rail. While transporting perishable goods in a truck, cooling is maintained that may or may not be by using dry ice. But in case of transportation through railways, use of dry ice is sure, plus isothermal walls are present, which prevents the exchange of heat, from the surrounding environment.

§ Water: Goods transportation with ships is also possible, air movement in and out is allowed, space for refrigerating containers is also given, for the transportation of goods, which needs low temperature for transportation purpose.

Transportation has made life comfortable and versatile. Now people can easily enjoy, food, fruits or anything produced in some other country or some other state. Perishable cargo transportation has become very easy these days due to the advancement of technology and infrastructure. Now the sellers and buyers don't have to worry about the decaying of the products, in which they have invested money. Source:- http://www.crystalgroup.in/
