Psychoanalysis was established in the early 20th century by Sigmund Freud, an Austrian neurologist who qualified as a doctor of medicine at the Vienna University (1881).

The process of deep introspection to identify one’s motivations, fears and aspirations is an attempt to unlock repressed emotions and traumas. Today, psychoanalysis is commonly used to deal with depression and anxiety disorders.
