An Ultimate Guide to Buying Kashmiri Willow Bats

Cricket is a sport with 2.5 billion fans all over the world. The main requirements of the game are a bat, a ball and wickets.

Cricket bats are made from willow and bats made from Kashmir willow bats are one of the most popular bats in the world used by many international players. Along with Kashmir willow bats, English willow bats are also very popular.

Just as we sell authentic pashmina to the world, similarly we have created this guide to give you details of how you can buy a Kashmiri Willow Bat.

Difference Between Kashmir Willow & English Willow

  1. Kashmir willow bats are made of willow grown in parts of Kashmir while as english willow is grown in England.
  2. Aesthetically there are two clear differnces between a Kashmir willow bat and english willow bat.

First and obvious difference is the colour. Kashmir willow bats are brown in colour while as english willow bats are white in colour.

Second and more minute difference is in the grain of the bats. Grain is the number of line that are visible on the face of the bats. These lines indicate the age of the willow from which the bat has been made. Higher the number of grains, better is the performance.

  1. Kashmir willow bats are heavier and more durable than English willow bats because Kashmir willow is harder and heavier than English willow.
  2. Kashmir willow bats have thinner blades than their English counterparts because the willow is heavier. This reduction in thickness of the blades leads to decrease in speed and distance the ball can travel.

Batting Style : -
Three types of cricket bats are :-

The low, the medium, and the high. This all refers to the position of the sweet spot of the bat. The low type of bat is perfect for drives and straight shots. The medium is a mix between the low and high while as high has a sweet spot that is further up towards the handle and is perfect for cuts and pulls.

  1. The Handle :– Choosing a bat with correct handle is very necessary for the confidence of the batter.

Two types of handles are:-

Oval and Round: The oval handle provides a better directional sense and pickup while as round handle provides greater control.

  1. The Toe Guard:– The toe on a cricket bat is prone to damage. This can happen when batsmen face those toe crushing yorkers which can lead to split in the wood and rendering the bat useless. To reduce the risk of damage it is recommended to use a toe guard.
