Hundreds of different varieties of chemicals are used by the oil and gas industry for different reasons. Chemicals play a prominent role in the smooth production of oil. They make the production of oil cost-effective, enable wells to produce a sufficient amount of oil or gas for a long time and make the functioning of oil extracting equipment smooth. Production of chemicals depends on the demand. It is a chemical plant responsible for custom oilfield production of chemicals. Chemicals are prepared with the mixture or two or four chemicals. These chemicals are used by the oil and gas industry for not only production but also handling and transportation of crude oil. When chemicals mixed with oil it is removed in the refinery in the form of impurities. For each well, the chemical formulation may vary depending on the time and the operating conditions. Chemicals are used for various stages that can be for drilling, cementing, well stimulation and well completion. At last, these chemicals end up as impurities in the crude oil.

During the production of crude oil, the flow of oil needs protection from the deposition of scale, wax, corrosion, and hydrates. Thus, chemicals are used to provide prevention against such depositions. The presence of acids, water content, and bacteria in the oil can be the reason for the corrosive environment. Apart from production, chemicals are required during transportation and logistical handling of the crude oil in the pipeline, terminal or tanker. various different types of chemicals are used to preserve the crude oil during transportation.

Types of Chemicals

Corrosion Inhibitors

The chemical compound is recommended to decrease the corrosion rate. The effectiveness of a corrosion inhibitor depends on the composition of fluid, flow regime and water quantity. The chemical forms a kind of coating or layer to provide protection against corrosive substances.

Scale Inhibitors

It prevents the deposition of mineral scale which occurs in the pores of rock formations and downhole pipework. Scale deposition influences production. It is why it needs to be treated occasionally.

Biocides

The chemical compound recommends preventing bacterial growth in crude oil. When the oil has water content during production, bacteria can grow. The chemical prevents bacterial growth because it is water-soluble and helps remove water from the crude.
