How do commonly available thermometers work?

You're wondering what kind of thermometer works best in your home? It is not easy to choose the right model. Let's not hide, nowadays, a simple sand or mercury thermometer is no longer a good choice.

If you have children in your home or live with the elderly, you should get one of the more modern models. Before we move on to what is different, how quickly and accurately they measure and for whom they are intended, let's make a brief diagnosis on the subject.

Why do we need a thermometer?

Many young people ask themselves: "Why do I need a thermometer, I don't get sick". Research conducted by an independent organization dealing with the prevention of colds shows that almost 50% of Polish homes do not have a single device to measure temperature. The thermometer is mainly used in households with infants, small children and elderly people. Why do young people, students and couples up to 45 years old "despise" such a useful device?

Most of them assume that buying a thermometer is a superfluous expense. However, it is worth bearing in mind that this product is useful not only when we are "caught" by a cold or flu. We can get fever for many different reasons - also in summer, when the hot weather is bad for us. Identifying a fever allows us to take quick action to break it down. Lack of any measures to reduce body temperature can result in serious health problems.

Correct body temperature

Almost all of you will confirm that the correct human body temperature is 36.6 degrees Celsius. Basically this should be the case, although we have to take into account that the temperature depends on many factors, including the time or place where we measure it. In fact, few people have a strictly booked temperature. The standard is therefore assumed to be between 36.2 and 37.1 degrees Celsius. Of course, every organism is different. We believe there are a lot of people in the world whose standard temperature is 37.2 or 36.1 degrees Celsius. These values are only conventional, and as long as the temperature is not accompanied by other symptoms of ill health, we should not worry. At this point we should also add that the lowest temperature is at night - around three o'clock, and the highest in the evening - between eighteen and twenty-second.

The feverish state

A fever is a situation where our temperature is not normal, although we cannot yet speak of a fever. It is assumed that a subfebrile state, i.e. an elevated temperature, occurs when the thermometer indicates between 37.1 and 38 degrees Celsius. Specialists recommend that when our temperature is elevated we should not take any medication as the body is trying to fight the disease itself. Only when the fever starts to rise should you take the appropriate temperature reducing agents.
