Reasons Behind The Popularity Of LEDs

Light emitting diodes, more popularly known as LEDs are the most energy-efficient lighting solution available in the market today. From being more affordable than the conventional lighting solutions available to consuming lesser energy to lasting longer to the variety of different lamp designs, LEDs are a customer favourite. Their popularity has given rise to the number of LED light manufacturers in the market.

Exceptional thermal management

One of the major disadvantages of conventional lighting solutions is the overheating of the lamps. The heat generated in the conversion of electricity to light is damaging and poses a fire hazard. LEDs are fitted with a heat sink, which is a conductor that conducts the heat generated from inside the system to outside, thus ensuring that the lamps do not overheat. This thermal management of the LEDs is one of the major reasons why LEDs are in high demand.

Even distribution of light

Another reason for the popularity of LEDs is its even distribution of light. The lens in LEDs helps disperse the light generated evenly across the space. This is a very sought-after feature when it comes to commercial lighting. If there is a lack of uniformity in the distribution of light, it could cause strain and headaches to the people in the room. Furthermore, LED lights function on very less electricity and therefore do not flicker even when there is a voltage fluctuation.

Resistant to wear and tear

Commercial space is an area of production. The purpose of commercial lighting is to illuminate the space where the rugged processes take place. This means that the lamps would be exposed to extreme conditions, whether there be variation in pressure or temperature. Lighting meant for the outdoors is exposed to wear and tear from atmospheric elements. LED light manufacturers produce LED lamps encased in plastic that ensure that the lamps stay resistant to any such wear and tear.

Barely noticeable carbon footprint

LEDs have been acclaimed as an environmentally sound lighting solution. One of the most common questions LED light manufacturers are asked is how LEDs are a ‘green’ choice. The answer to this lies in the fact that LEDs convert about 90% of the electricity they consume into light, only the remaining 10% is dissipated as heat. Whereas, about 70% of the electrical energy consumed by conventional halogen bulbs is dissipated as heat adding to the increasing global temperature.

Ease of manufacture

The rise in LED light manufacturers is also attributed to the ease of manufacture of LED lamps. The cost of production of an LED lamp is also considerably lesser than halogen bulbs. LEDs are essentially semiconductors with chips to generate light, lens to distribute light, heat sinks to conduct the heat outside the lamp, housing to rest the chip and heat sink, a circuit for electrical supply all fixed onto a board. These components can be procured and assembled quite easily and at lower rates compared to the components in a conventional halogen bulb.
