Using Google My Business In A Post COVID-19 World

The world has changed, and we need to adapt our businesses along with it, check out our top tips for how to generate more business in a post COVID-19 society.

Google My Business is a vital tool for local SEO and business owners have the chance to utilise it like never before. Take a look below at some of the brand new GMB features and see which ones could be right for your organisation.

Temporary Closures

With looming local lockdowns and the madness of March still fresh in our minds, Google My Business has given business owners the chance to temporarily close their establishments. This can be changed anytime on the Info tab on GMB.

It’s a sad but needed measure right now, so don’t be afraid to use this when necessary. And, of course, if you have moved onto pastures new, you can mark your business permanently closed and remove your listing, also.

Change Your Opening Hours

It could be that COVID-19 restrictions have meant that your opening hours have now changed. Make sure you keep this up to date, as you don’t want any annoyed customers popping in past closing time!

To change your opening hours, visit the Info tab and scroll until you find your hours of operation.

Dine-in, Takeout & Contact-free Delivery

Thousands of restaurants, bars and cafés have used these unprecedented times to diversify their businesses. And if you’re one of them, you need to let people know how you’ve improved. Google My Business now lets owners add dine-in, takeout and contact-free deliver options to your listing, ensuring you still get to maximise your footfall, orders and revenue. Even better, add your products to your account, too.

Online Appointments

If your business can offer customers and clients appointments via online means, you’re possibly already ahead of the competition. Make sure you shout about this and add it into your GMB listing.

Fill out your Services tab on your account too, as to not miss a single income opportunity. Ensure that your online booking platforms and working perfectly before advertising this service on Google My Business.

Safety & Hygiene Measures

On the 11th of September, Google My Business added more in-depth health and safety attributes to their range. Business owners are now able to add: • Masks required for customers or staff • Temperature checks required for customers or staff • Appointments or reservations required

This is great for any B2C organisation with a physical store. However, be sure to stick by any rules and safety measures you commit to on your Google My Business listing, as this may be a deciding factor in why new and existing customers chose to come to you, rather than a competitor.

Announcements

Google now gives business owners the chance to provide text-only announcements for COVID-19 related updates. This means you’re able to quickly let any potential visitors know of any notifications and keep the public and yourselves safer. These updates are shown on your Google My Business profile, on Google Maps and Google Search.

If your business has been affected by COVID-19 which, let’s be honest, every organisation probably has, you need to ensure that you are taking serious steps to keep everybody safe. And keep people up to date on your business activities is the first step.

You could be struggling to get your new business off the ground in this post-COVID-19 world, unaware of where your customers are coming from, or just unsure of your next marketing strategy. We can help with all of this, so get in contact today and let’s move forward together.
