How to Guide for House Washing

Anything that can get dirty can get clean and that goes for your home as well. Power washing on your own can be a daunting task but it can be done. Here I will briefly explain how you can wash your house just using a few basic cleaning tools. This guide is for vinyl and aluminum siding only.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Power Washer with chemical injector option/nozzles (Rated for 2-4 GPM)
  • Power washer hose (50 feet or more)
  • Power washer wand
  • Bleach
  • Blue Dawn Dish Soap
  • PPE: Gloves and eye protection
  • Optional: Pump sprayer (For tougher stains)

Before you start:

You need to first mix your cleaning solution, go with 50% bleach and 50% water in a container or your power washer's chemical tank. Also add in about 5 ounces of Blue Dawn Dish Soap. Mix well.

Cleaning the house: **Always use proper PPE around chemicals, protect your eyes and hands**

  1. Before applying any soap to the home, rinse down all vegetation and any other items that you don't want chemical on. Rinsing of vegetation(before and after) must be done to prevent the plants/flowers/shrubs from being burned by the bleach. Failing to do so will kill your plants.
  2. Start applying soap to the home's exterior from bottom to top using your power washers chemical/soap nozzle, only doing one side of the home at a time. Do not let the solution dry, keep it wet.
  3. After a few minutes you'll start to see the green algae disappear, multiple applications may be necessary. If you still have algae on parts of the home, use your pump up sprayer with the mixed solution to clean faster, wear PPE.
  4. Rinse all exterior surfaces if you are satisfied that all algae and dirt are dissolved. To rinse higher areas, use the red tip, be careful not to directly/harshly spray any exterior surface with any nozzles, doing so can cause permanent damage.
  5. Rinse all vegetation again. Once you complete this step you are finished, congrats!

Maybe you don't want to do it yourself...

And that's okay because you can easily and affordable hire a residential power washing service like myself to do this service for you. Just make sure you do your research on the company for hiring by checking referrals, reviews, business insurance and licensing.
