Sedan is one of the most popular segments of Pakistani local industry. We have seen many sedan contenders come and go in the past three decades. It might come as a surprise, but no, Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic were not always the only two top sedans in Pakistan. In fact, we used to have a lot of affordable and budget sedan options. It’s actually sad that we have now forgotten all about them. We kind of understand Pakistanis’ tendency to not trust the international car brands like Chevrolet and Kia. But if they did settle a liking for the Toyota and Honda sedans, why did they not like the Suzuki sedans? After all, Suzuki has been a part of the Big 3 car brands in Pakistan for years and years.
We studied the two Suzuki sedans to find out the answer, but honestly we couldn’t pin anything against them. Here, have a look.

Suzuki Baleno
Suzuki Baleno first came to Pakistan in late 1998. In the beginning, there was one base model, Suzuki Baleno ELi, one mid variant, Suzuki Baleno GLi, and one fully power-packed variant, Suzuki Baleno GXi. All three variants had 1300cc engines. In 2001, Pak Suzuki discontinued all these variants (and others), and introduced an entirely new lineup of the Baleno sedan. The new variants were named as JXL, JXR, and Sport. One thing that stayed the same in all these variants was the engine power. You might take it as a normal sedan, but one step on the race and the power will shock you. All Baleno cars have excellent fuel economy of at least 13 to 15 kilometers in the city. Ground clearance is also pretty great. Overall, it’s a comfortable and luxury ride in low budget.

Suzuki Liana
Suzuki Liana was another sedan with a lot of potential. It was the successor of the Suzuki Baleno and carried forward bits of design aspects from its predecessor, such as rear multi-link independent suspension, hydraulic power steering, and multi-point fuel injection. However, this is where the similarities end. The Liana was the first car by Pak Suzuki to boast an aluminum alloy engine block with dual overhead camshafts (DOHC) as well as an immobilizer.

Liana was, of course, a bit more modern than Baleno in exterior and interior design. Other than that, engine performance and comfort level was almost the same.
