PIRACETAM

Piracetam is considered the first true racetam nootropic ever developed. I t was synthesized in 1964 by Dr. Corneliu Giurgea at UCB Pharma. It was intended to be a calming type of drug for motion sickness as it is a cyclic derivative of the calming neurotransmitter GABA, but Dr. Giurgea found that it was able to boost cognition even in healthy people.

Many people new to nootropics start with piracetam because of it’s safe and has decades of clinical studies supporting it’s use. It has been found that piracetam modulates AMPA and NMDA receptors in the brain which increases the effectiveness of glutamate. The neurotransmitter acetylcholine is improved by this while the acetylcholine receptors improve in density and sensitivity.

It will take two to three weeks of consistent daily use of piracetam before you notice the benefits. The regular dosage of piracetam is 40-100mg per kilogram of bodyweight while it ranges between 1200mg and 4800mg a day for adults. Experienced  neurohackers suggest starting  with an “attack dose” of 3,000 mg of piracetam 3 times per day for the first 3 days. It will take two to three weeks of consistent daily use of piracetam before you notice the benefits. These benefits include:

  1. Enhanced cognitive performance
  2. The reversal of amnesia induced by , e.g, scopolamine. electroconclusive shock and hypoxia.
  3. Increased turnover of different neurotransmitters such as polypenditose.
  4. Calming seizures in various models of epilepsy due to its anticonvulsant properties. When taken over the period of one year, significant improvement in epileptic patients will be noted. Apart from this central nervous disorder, it helps in other neurodegenerative diseases such as anxiety.
  5. Socializing is enhanced in people with mild cerebral impairments, Though there is no evidence that piracetam will improve socializing skills in healthy people, extraversion has been noted in patients. Verbal fuency will also improve as a result of taking piracetam and allow for better communkication to other people.
  6. Improved mood. Piracetam will give you the feeling of euphoria, though short term, to better your moods.
  7. Pain relief and reduced inflammation in the treatment of neuropathic pain and injury has been shown in different studies. Brain trauma is one thing that could lead to inflammation and chronic neuropathic pain. This nootropic drug has been found to be of great help.
  8. Treatment of dyslexia. The piracetam nootropic drug improves reading skills, verbal memory and verbal conceptualizing ability. The letter-like stimuli processing of the brain is generally enhanced.
  9. Alzheimer’s disease can be treated with piracetam which improves visual memory, as well as remote recall. Parkinson’s disease has been suggested to be treated by piracetam evn though studies haven’t shown any significant improvements.
  10. Improved blood flow in post-stroke patients which helps in their rehabilitation and the help them engineer a good life. In post bypass surgery patients, this drug is potentially helpful with recovery.
  11. Improved longevity of the brain by improving mitochondrial activity. Stress and sickness may lead to certain mitochondrial dysfunctions . Hence, this drug may reduce the negative repercussions of such dysfunctions, stabilizing and protecting mitochondria.

The side effects of piracetam include:

  • Dysphoria
  • Tiredness and sleepiness
  • Dizziness
  • Memory loss
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea

The full potential of piracetam as a nootropic drug is yet to be fully unleashed by further scientific studies but it should be applauded that scientists have been able to make such strides with it. Piracetam cannot be found in every medicine store or country but one can access it online on platforms such as Amazon. Pregnant women and children should not take this nootropic drug since there is no sufficient research to show its adverse effects on them.
