Wooden Toys Of Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow

Wooden toys have been a favorite toy for years ... don't let the TV commercials fool you! Long before plastics appeared, children played with wooden toys. Today, some of those same favorite wooden toys are still favorites of children and parents. Many parents believe in all television commercials and buy what their children see and want on television only to find it broken or at the bottom of the toy box shortly after and of course ... the endless shopping for batteries! !

I will define a few favorites that I have observed that would fit into the category of being a favorite wooden toy of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Wooden building blocks have probably been one of the oldest favorites and still are today. Give a child a stack of blocks of different sizes and watch the creative mind at work.

A barn and a wooden fence I know that many parents or grandparents have built a barn for a Christmas present. This is one that is not just a toy but is passed down from generation to generation and the stories that pass as well.

A wooden doll crib is a little girl's favorite along with a wooden kitchen set. I remember the wooden doll's crib that my great-grandmother had. Some wooden doll cribs are even sold with handmade blankets and pillows to add that soft, homey look.

Wooden toys are a must-have for that little kid. Wooden push toys help stimulate walking while trying to control a toy and also provide mental stimulation. There are many available, but the one I like the most has small studs inside the roller and they make noise when pushed. I have seen many children play with this toy of yesteryear and as soon as it falls, another child is there to catch it.

Last but not least, it is perhaps the favorite toy of yesterday, today and tomorrow. This would be an antique marble roller. This toy has been around for a long time and, like the other wooden toys, it proves a point ... KIDS LOVE THEM! How fun it can be to put a few marbles on top of the roller, take the cap off, and watch them roll down the roller in one go. Or maybe 2 children are playing and having a quiz about which marble will hit the bottom first.
