5 Worst Home Network Design Mistakes

Home Network Design Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

The Internet has become a necessity in the last two decades. That’s why home-based networks are very common these days, in fact, every home has one. Routine work seems almost impossible without these networks. Another big reason for an increase in private networks is the COVID-19 because a lot of people are working from home.

With this spike in networks, a lot of issues also come forward. A lot of people face very basic problems that can be diagnosed quite easily. However, there are some very specific technical issues of home networking that can’t be resolved without professional intervention. Below you can find a list of daily networking issues.

1.      Ignoring the importance of password

Password is the front and the last line of defense for networks at home. Because such networks are not owned by companies there’s no dedicated firewall and other security. A lot of people don’t even back up their data. So, for them, the network password is extremely important but most of them discover it the hard way. Unless the default password of the router is changed there’s always a risk of network hacking because default passwords are relatively easier to hack. Therefore, as recommended by the companies you must change the password every once in a while, for maximum protection.

2.      Zero planning

A lot of network issues occur because there’s no planning behind it. It is a common practice among people to install the network without proper planning. They don’t take into account how many people can effectively benefit from it and what kind of risks and challenges there might be. There are a number of devices that you can connect to a network. For example, PCs, laptops, TV, LAN Printers, WLAN printers, etc. Every single device demands a certain type of connection and minimum operational planning to perform effectively. That’s why take your time to plan for the setting for max output.

3.      Unsuitable router location

This is probably the most common and troubling factor. Every router has a specific range and if you are not in range, you can’t use the Wi-Fi. In some cases, the signal strength isn’t strong enough and consequently, it leads to a bad and inefficient performance. The reason for this trouble is the location of router. The installation company usually doesn’t take into account the signal strength in the home and as a result, such issues arise. Don’t worry because this problem can be solved by placing the router in an appropriate position for max outreach.

4.      Sharing passwords

Sharing is caring isn’t an ideal thing for your Wi-Fi password. It might sound like fun because you are trying to be kind to everyone. However, the reality is quite the opposite because you are basically giving away a part of your network to others. In addition, you expect them not to share it further. If you have done such a mistake, then your internet performance will drop considerably. Just open your network setting and see how many people are connected to your network. You can turn the table around just by modifying your password.

5.      Poor coverage in the area

This point actually concerns who are either installing a new service or replacing the current service. People are attracted to advertisements. When they see an affordable package that includes, internet, TV, and telephone, they rush to grab it without knowing about the coverage. If there’s poor coverage in the area, then of course the service would be poor and the customer will be unhappy. So, make sure you ask about the coverage to avoid future problems.

Internet is the backbone of economies because of its outstanding communication potential. Now it has become equally important for homes as well. That’s why one must be vigilant about the common issues so the problems can be solved easily. The issues given above are quite simple and if you pay attention, you’ll never face these issues ever in your life.
