When I Meet With My Spiritual Adviser, What Should I Do To Ensure That I Am Prepared For The Meeting?

Spiritual directors provide spiritual companionship and, in some instances, mentoring to those who seek their services. For example, suppose someone is seeking spiritual direction. In that case, an actual spiritual director will not offer much advice in terms of suggesting what she should do or counseling her on whether or not her Theological viewpoint is correct in any way.

Neither is it the duty of a spiritual director to instruct nor act as an enforcer of the soul's discipline. To the individual in need, they offer a feeling of presence in addition to listening sympathetically to their concerns. Choosing a spiritual director may be a life-changing experience. A spiritual director can provide direction and information to the director and help the director visualize, dream, and pray for themself as necessary.

To prepare for spiritual guidance, three steps must be completed before it may begin.

● The preparation takes place from a distance.

The last minutes of your previous spiritual direction are spent preparing for your new spiritual path, which begins immediately afterward. To create your spiritual plan for the month, you may choose to make a list of the most important insights you received during guidance and focus on a few particular actions you want to do.

● Preparation for a close approach to the objective

Spend some time the day before your spiritual direction looking through the map you developed in response to your last spiritual path to get yourself ready.

● Confidentiality

You may be sure that anything you communicate to your spiritual guide will be kept entirely confidential. Inspiring you and giving you hope; a professional spiritual director always has hope for you and gently nudges you in the direction of the wisdom and grace that God has already poured into your life through the ministry of their profession.

As opposed to spiritual advice, someone educated enough to recognize when you need help is preferred. If you seem to be suffering from a physical, emotional, or mental ailment, an attentive spiritual director will remember and encourage you to get professional assistance as soon as possible. To put it another way, a spiritual director recognizes that she is neither a social worker nor a psychiatrist and that she will make no effort to fulfill any of these responsibilities on your behalf.
