Trauma-informed care recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms/ experiences and acknowledges the role trauma may play in our life. Some guiding principles while processing trauma can be creating space for safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness and empowerment.
Psychodynamic
The psychodynamic approach assists in finding patterns in our emotions, thoughts, and beliefs in order to gain insight into our current self instead of focusing on behavior.
Motivational Interviewing
MI engages a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication to create an empathic connection, encouraging the sharing of our thoughts, feelings, and experiences around struggles with particular behaviors, and enhancing our own motivations.
Mindfulness
"Mindfulness" based approach uses mindfulness meditation or techniques to teach us to consciously pay attention to our thoughts and feelings with a non-judgmental attitude. Certain techniques help ground us in the present and teach us how to pay attention to what comes up in our bodies when processing or expressing lived experiences.
