RNI Registration: Registrar of Newspapers for India

Online RNI Registration

Newspapers are the most popular and best way to get information to the masses. These days, there are many online newspapers in India. They have got more popular because it is easy to read and understand the news. The Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) is the official body that keeps a record of all publications in India. It is an agency under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. The main objective of RNI is to collect the details about newspapers published in India. The details include their publication frequency, circulation, etc. It also maintains a record of newspapers in India by issuing a unique registration number to each publication.

What is the process of registering a new newspaper?

In India, newspapers are registered under the Press and Registration of Book Act (PRBA). The act was enacted in 1867.

The registration of the newspaper is done in the office of the District Registrar of Newspapers (DRN) in each district of the country. The DRN issues a certificate of registration to the publisher and the newspaper is brought out with that certificate. The validity period of the certificate is one year, after which it has to be renewed (Not sure please confirm with your consultant). The publisher has to submit an application for renewal along with necessary documents and fees to the DRN where he/she had registered.
