How to Apply for the Express Entry Program to Canada

Express entry is the quickest and most expedient way to get permanent residency in Canada. The Express entry draw helps eligible applicants get their PR applications processed faster.

This Express entry pool is a point-based method that ranks applicants based on their entire profile. Your profile is influenced by your age, language ability, employment experience, and educational background.

What Is the Process?

Candidates will be required to fill out an online express entry form. Your age, education, language skills, and professional experience should all be clearly stated.

Following that, you must meet the criteria for at least one federal economic immigration program. The system will evaluate each candidate's profile and rate them according to their chances of success.

An official invitation will be sent to the highest-ranking profiles. You can proceed with your PR application using this invitation, referred to as an ITA. You must decide quickly since the formal permanent residence application, commonly known as the computerized Application for Permanent Residence, has a 90-day deadline (eAPR). The application is completed and submitted through the Immigration Consultants in India, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) online web platform.

Guidelines For Express Entry Documents

Documents supporting the qualifications and other credentials indicated in your Express Entry profile, as well as verification that you are not inadmissible to Canada, must be sent with your e-application. The documents have to be written in either English or French. If not, you'll need to hire a qualified translator to translate the paperwork.

1) Documents proving one's identity and civil status

  • Birth Certificate

Include copies of everyone's birth certificates in your application. If you've adopted children, you'll need an adoption certificate.

If you live in a nation that does not issue birth certificates, you can instead attach a document (affidavit) that verifies your birth details.

  • Passports

Include a copy of your passport or travel document's biodata page for each member of your traveling party.

  • Status of Civilians

Are you single, married, divorced, widowed, or living together as a common-law couple? You must provide documentation of your civil status in your application.

Never married and single: In most cases, no documentation is necessary.

Married: Certificate of Marriage

The term "conjugal" or "common-law" connection refers to the evidence of a relationship, such as the joint property ownership or a joint lease arrangement

Divorced: Certificate of Divorce

Widowed: Marriage certificate & Death certificate

It's possible that you'll need to submit a combination of these documents. If you are divorced and currently in a common-law relationship, you must bring both your divorce certificate and proof of a genuine common-law relationship.

2) Language Examination Results

  • As a general rule, always submit a copy of your language test results. Include any language exams that your spouse or common-law partner may have taken.

  • Although some language testing institutes offer the option of sending your results directly to the IRCC, the IRCC prefers candidates to send their results themselves.

3) Educational Records

Include an original Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report as well as the following documents to support the qualifications for which you've claimed points:

  • Copies of certificates, diplomas, or degrees for each secondary and post-secondary program completed.
  • Transcripts for all secondary and post-secondary programs completed.

4) Age Requirements

The express draw system does not always favor one age group over another. You also don't have to meet any minimum or maximum age requirements.

Applicants aged 20 to 29 years old, on the other hand, will obtain the most points. If you're above 35 and have a strong educational history, you'll be able to easily make up for the points you lost.

5) Is it possible to apply twice?

Only if your spouse is applying for express entry will you be permitted to submit an application under their name.

You can choose to resubmit your application if you don't receive an invitation within 12 months

6) Conclusion

Express entry profile filing is a time-consuming process that might take a few weeks or a few months if you are starting from scratch.
