5 Ways to adapt Innovative Learning Skills!

“Innovative learning skills”, is a unique term that we can understand better by breaking down, and getting to the core of it:

Skill is the ability of a person to perform an action and obtain the desired result within a given time and energy. Whereas, learning skills is when a set of skills are used in the process of acquiring new knowledge, which includes time-management, note-taking, effective reading, writing, etc.

Innovation is the practical application/ implementation of unique ideas and experiments. Thus, innovative learning skills can best be explained as using innovative ways to best learn something in-depth, at a given time period.

In other words, it's a sort of learning similar to creative learning, wherein the learners elicit change, renewal, and reorganization. It’s when you don’t simply memorize concepts, but rather build knowledge and learn new skills, through innovative techniques.

It is the creation of an environment where new things are learned on a regular basis, questions are asked, new ideas are brought to life, and technology too is used effectively to make things more functional.

What 4 skills are required for innovation?

Skills needed to learn and be more innovative are broadly categorized into 4 Cs: critical thinking, creative thinking, communicating, and collaborating. These include visual, auditory, linguistic, kinesthetic, logical, social, interpersonal, and other such skills, which are all necessary when one wishes to learn and upgrade themselves.

How can I improve my learning and innovative skills?

It is said that innovative skills are a conglomeration of functional, technical, behavioral, and cognitive skills. And the thing about skills is that they can always be learned, and enhanced, thus helping you succeed through it. And here are a few ways that can help you learn new innovative learning skills

  • Willingness to learn

The primary-most step would always be your willingness to step into it and truly learn. For if you aren't really interested and it’s a mere obligation then you are bound to lose interest and thereby not be benefited from it. Hence, make sure it is of meaning to you, something that interests you, and will be of substance to you in the long run. Only then would you be able to make most of it.

  • Do, reflect, learn, repeat

Once you have recognized and set your focus on your goal, always start with taking a stock of your present skill level, and then make “do, reflect, learn, repeat your mantra!

  • Be curious, be greedy, and be the hardest worker. Keep working, and then work some more.
  • But don’t just keep working, be mindful, and keep reflecting too. Self-reflection is an important step to help you grow better.
  • And while at it, don’t neglect your flaws, faults, and shortcomings, keep learning from them and growing.
  • And finally, repeat and keep practicing until you reach your ultimate goal!

  • Ditch learning styles

The next most important thing you need to do if you wish to learn new skills is to stop putting yourself in a box. Don’t restrict yourself to certain learning styles. Sure, one of your senses might be stronger than the other but that certainly doesn’t mean that you can’t strengthen the others.

Keep experimenting, interact with varied information, and use multiple sources. The key is to not stick to one aspect. For, why only learn via reading, when there are really educational podcasts too?

  • Find the right mentor

A mentor does play a major part in guiding, supporting, and pushing you towards your destination. A mentor is like the guiding star, and a ladder that helps you at every step of the way, hence it’s important that you choose the right one for yourself.

The e-platform nowadays has a wide range of options when it comes to both tutors and courses. One such online teaching app is Winuall, wherein you can find a no. of options and choose for yourself the most befitting course and tutor. Thus, find the right mentor for yourself and make your learning more fruitful.

  • Induce flexibility, and take breaks

A good environment is another important factor if and when you wish to learn. You need to have a relaxed mindset, an uninterrupted setting, and a timetable to act as a guide. However, it is important to not be too rigid or difficult on yourself. Do give yourself some leeway and be as flexible as you can without being lazy and unproductive.

Another point to consider and follow is to take enough breaks. For, unlike the general perception, breaks only make you more attentive, and vigilant.

Tip: Apply the Pomodoro technique to help yourself be more efficient.

Other than these, there sure would be more steps that might have worked for you in life before, or perhaps would now. So keep trying, experimenting, and redoing what works best for you!

And lastly be sure to inculcate skills like patience, curiosity, vigilance, and hardwork in yourself. For these are the key skills to learn anything in life.
