US Supreme court strikes down New York handgun law
The US Supreme Court on Thursday, 23, June paved the way for almost all law-abiding American people to carry concealed and loaded guns in public, after striking down the New York State law requiring ‘Proper Cause’ to carry firearms outside the home.

What is the case about?
The New York law which has been in force since 1913, like many other states require gun owners to demonstrate a ‘Specific Reason’ Or ‘Proper Cause’ Or need for carrying a gun to receive a license. Only license holders can carry a gun in a concealed manner in public.
Other landmark gun decisions issued by the court were in 2008 and 2010, according to which individual gun ownership rights were preserved within homes on a national basis.
This time the question before the court was “what about carrying the handgun outside the home? ” Here US Supreme court found that the ‘Proper Cause’ requirement violates the second amendment right of an American citizen to “Keep and bear arms” under the US Constitution.

The Justice’s opinion split the court in a 6 to 3 ruling, with the liberal justices in dissentment and the conservative justices in the majority.
