Organ On A Chip Growth Dynamics

Organ-On-A-Chip technology is expected to be useful for a wide range of applications, including disease modelling, patient stratification, and phenotypic screening. The majority of demand is expected to come from lung-based organ culture, followed by kidney application. When compared to petri dishes and animal testing, the technology provides better clinical examinations, allowing scientists and companies to better understand the functioning of internal organs such as the brain and lungs. Funding and government initiatives are expected to boost growth even further. Though it is expected to create significant opportunities, high costs and an early stage in R&D are some of the factors contributing to the Organ on a Chip's slow growth.

Nanoparticle delivery is one of the major challenges in nanomedicine. To achieve this, nanoparticles carrying therapeutic payloads must be engineered to accumulate preferentially at the disease site, minimizing off-target effects. By engineering the nanoparticles' properties, organ-chip systems can achieve target-specific delivery of nanotherapeutics. They can also be used for in vitro modeling and analysis of nanoparticles.

The microfluidics technique allows researchers to establish extracorporeal models of the lungs using microfluidics. These systems are useful for toxicology research as they can simulate the effects of nanoparticles on the lungs. Moreover, lung on chip models can be used to study the pulmonary response to nanoparticles. A lung on a chip model can also be used in toxicology research, to test the toxicity of nanoparticles, or to correct oversimplified in vitro models.
