4 everyday things that are bad for your teeth

Your oral health is very important, and many people understand that taking care of your teeth is just as important as taking care of your overall health. You might already know that you have to brush every single day, and also remember to floss to make sure that you don't have to face common dental problems. But did you know that there are some daily habits that you might have that can be very harmful to your teeth? If you currently have any of these habits, you will have to immediately take steps to get rid of these habits so that you can ensure that you are not harming your teeth without even knowing what is causing the damage.

Biting your nails - It is a very common habit for some people to bite their nails, and they keep doing it even if people tell them to stop. Some people only bite their nails in particular situations, while others keep biting their nails all the time. It doesn't matter what is causing you to bite your nails, you have to stop doing it. Biting your nails is harmful to your teeth because your teeth are continuously breaking through a hard substance which is ultimately going to affect your teeth in a negative way. This causes unnecessary wear and tear to your teeth, so try to avoid this habit as much as possible. Biting your nails isn't only bad for your teeth, but it is also bad for your health because bacteria trapped in your nails can enter the digestive system and cause infection.

Brushing too hard - People understand that brushing every day, and brushing your teeth properly is very important. But sometimes, people brush too hard, and that is not good for your teeth. You have to brush twice a day, and if you keep brushing harder than you have to, then it will cause your teeth to wear out. It can damage the topmost layer of your teeth which is a very common reason behind sensitivity. If you don't know how much pressure you should be putting on your teeth while brushing, you can ask dentists in Coquitlam to teach you the proper way of brushing your teeth. You can also ask your dentist for advice on what type of cross to use that would be good for your teeth. The trick to finding a good toothbrush is choosing the one that is not too hard or too soft and finding the one that fits between the two.

Using your teeth to crack or open things - Your teeth are not supposed to be used as tools to open bottles or crack open walnuts. Don't use your teeth for those purposes so that your teeth don't have to do the things that they are not designed to do. Use the tools that are designed to do those things instead of using your teeth, and even though opening a bottle cap, might seem like your teeth are not getting damaged, actually, bottle caps can very easily crack or chip your teeth. Young people tend to have this habit of opening bottles with their teeth, but if you are one of those people who do this, stop doing this immediately. All it takes is one wrong step, and you might cause some permanent damage to your teeth. If your tooth breaks, or cracks, you will have to replace it with an artificial tooth which can never be as good as the natural one.

Biting ice cubes - For many people, it is almost like the ritual to chew on the ice cubes after finishing their drink. And even though it might seem like a harmless thing to do, it should be pretty obvious to you that it is not very good for your teeth to chew on hard objects like ice cubes. All those ice cubes are very cold, which means that if you keep them in your mouth for a very long time, they can cause sensitivity. Secondly, fighting on ice cubes can damage your teeth, and you have to be especially careful when you have dental fillings. Ice cubes can cause the fillings and teeth to crack, which is not only very painful but also very expensive to repair that type of damage. Do your teeth a favor, leave the ice cubes alone after finishing your drink, and let them stay there.

These four habits are very bad for teeth, and if you are doing any of these things, then try to stop as soon as possible. Some of these problems have a short-term effect, while others have a long-term effect, but all in all, we can say that it is not a very good idea to open bottles with your teeth or bite your nails.
