How Metal is Extract From Ore ?

An ore is a deposit of one or more valuable minerals in the Earth's crust. Metals that are essential to industry and commerce, such as copper, gold and iron, are the most valuable ore deposits. Copper ore can be mined for many industrial purposes. Copper is an excellent conductor and used to make electrical wire. Copper can also be used in construction. Copper is used in plumbing and pipes. Gold is also mined for industrial purposes, just like copper. To protect astronauts' eyes from the harmful effects of solar radiation, space helmets are coated with a thin layer gold. Jewellery is made with most of the gold. Gold ore has been used as currency for thousands of years Iron ore has been extracted for thousands of year. The main component of steel is iron, which is the second most abundant metal on Earth. Steel is a valuable and strong building material. Iron can be found in glass, fertilizer, and solid rocket boosters that were once used to launch the spacecraft from Earth's atmosphere. Metals often are associated with specific ores. For example, bauxite is a common ore that contains aluminium. The aluminium found in bauxite can be used in containers, cosmetics and medicines. Smelting and Electrolysis Miners first remove the rock from the ground when they find rock that contains mineral ore. This can be a complicated process that can result in the loss of millions of tons of dirt. Powerful machinery then crushes the rock. One of two main methods to extract metal from crushed ore is smelting and electrolysis. To separate valuable metal from the rest, smelting involves heat. To separate the metal from its ore, smelting requires a reduction agent or another chemical. The reduction agent used in early smelters was carbon in the form charcoal. For example, iron can be melted by charcoal that has been boiled with hematite. By using electricity and acid, electrolysis can separate metal from its ore. Electrolysis is used to extract aluminum from bauxite, which can burn at very high temperatures. An electrical current is then run through the pool to dissolve the bauxite. The current causes electrons to attach to oxygen and hydrogen, which are the other elements found in bauxite. This leaves the aluminum. Ore Genesis Earth has a finite amount of ore. The process of creating an ore deposit takes millions of years. There are three main types hydrothermal, internal, and superficial. Geologic activity can lead to the accumulation of ore, as in volcanoes bringing ore from the depths of the planet to the surface. This is known as an internal process. Seawater can also collect ore through cracks in Earth’s crust. This happens when it circulates around hydrothermal vents. This is known as a hydrothermal process.
