What is a Domain Name?

Introduction

A domain name is a name you use to access your website. It’s a unique string of letters and numbers that identifies your site. For example, if you want to create a website about dogs and cat breeds, your domain name could be “dogbreeds.net”

If you want to create a website, you’ll need to register a domain name.

If you want to create a website, you’ll need to register a domain name.

Domain names are registered through registrars, and they're the most common type of internet addresses. A domain name extension is added after your company's or person's name (e.g., mycompany123). The most common extensions are .com, .net and .org; some businesses use their brand name as an extension as well (for example: Google).

When starting up your business online, it’s important that everything has its own unique URL address (URL stands for “Uniform Resource Locator”). An IP address is what connects computers within one network location together—it allows them all access to each other but doesn't reveal who's talking on which computer at any given time!

Your domain name is the name of your site.

Your domain name is the address visitors type into the browser to get to your site. It’s also what people remember you by and use when they search for you on social media.

For example, if I had a website that was called “the-best-cooking-recipes” and my domain was “thebestcookingrecipes.com,” then anyone who typed in that address would see my website!
