Pregnancy is a natural and physiological condition and not a disease.

So , do not immerse her in myths and fears and let her rationally decide basing herself on her doctor’s advice.

 

IS CLIMBING STAIRS ALLOWED IN PREGNANCY?



If your pregnancy is going on smoothly and there is no concern raised by your obstetrician, then you can climb stairs all throughout pregnancy.

But if you have previous history of miscarriages or early preterm babies , or you have had bleeding in this pregnancy or have high blood pressure or multiple pregnancies , your doctor will caution you about your activities.

 

WHAT PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN WHILE CLIMBING STAIRS?

It is important to avoid any slips or falls while climbing stairs

Thus..

1. Be mindful while climbing or walking down the stairs.

2. Hands should be free and do not carry weights.

3. Take one step at a time and do it slowly. Stop at each landing and wait before taking the next flight of stairs

3. Avoid broken steps or wet steps.

4. Do not be in a hurry and do not climb long flight of stairs.

5. Catch hold of a railing while climbing stairs.

6. If you feel dizzy , just stop there , hold the railing, take deep breaths and sit down.

7. Wear proper fitting shoes and dress while climbing stairs to avoid slipping or tripping.

IS CLIMBING STAIRS A BENEFIT?

It is important to remain active through out pregnancy especially if you are looking for a normal delivery.

Climbing stairs is an exercise which shall help open up your joints, improve your muscle strength and help you in labour.

You should have an honest discussion with your obstetrician and overcome your fears and myths. Every woman and her pregnancy is unique and your Obstetrician knows you the best.
