A simple diet chart for a cancer patient to recover after treatment

Cancer is one of the most common concerns in the modern age.

Once a cancer patient has undergone the long and tedious treatment of surgical oncology or radiation oncology, it is important to keep the diet in check for the foreseeable future.

A simple diet chart for a cancer patient can go a long way in strengthening the body's defences and in being able to fight any foreign infections that may invade the immune system.

A healthy diet will facilitate and fasten the healing of the damaged tissues from the treatment.

Find below the five major foods to include in a Cancer patient diet plan.

1.Grains-

Consumption of grains is known to have an improved impact on the digestive health of cancer survivors. Research indicates that an everyday dose of whole grains and whole grains only cannot only replenish the immune system but can also help reduce the risk of developing cancer. As an important part of the Indian diet plan for cancer, export oncologists suggest consuming enough grains which are rich in fibre content to not only maintain body weight but also fight cancer.

2.Pulses and Meat-

The pulses and meat which are healthy fats can include omega-3 fatty acids and therefore are extremely beneficial for cancer survivors. If you are a survivor who has lost a tremendous amount of weight during your treatment, consuming a healthy and prescribed amount of healthy fats such as fish and walnuts can prove to be extremely helpful in rebuilding your health.

3.Fruits-

Expert oncologists suggest that a cancer patient's diet plan must include at least 2.5 cups of fruits every day.

Fruits or the greatest source of energy and various important nutritional elements to keep the body‘s health in check. They are also known to provide the necessary vitamins that will facilitate the rejuvenation of the immune system. While it is true that the fruit will also help maintain a healthier body weight, we would advise you to seek consultation from your oncologist and then make changes to your fruit consumption since overconsumption of certain nutrients and vitamins can also prove to be harmful after cancer treatment.

4.Vegetables-

From consuming green vegetables like lettuce, spinach and kale, to eating the usuals such as carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers, vegetables can be a contributing and important factor in maintaining a healthy body mass index of about 25Kg/M2. It is a common assumption that vegetarians are prone to consuming more vegetables but it is certainly not the case. From being averted to vegetables like beans and cabbages, to simply forgetting to buy capsicums or brinjals from the market, even vegetarians lose out on a lot of the important nutrients and fibre content necessary to eat the digestive process and rejuvenate the immune system. A fresh salad failed with green and dark yellow vegetables can help provide the necessary fibre content for the body.

5.Proteins-

Be it in the form of meat, lentils, beans, Soyabean, milk, eggs, nuts, smoothies, porridges or curd, proteins are extremely crucial in maintaining a healthy digestive system and helping the body strengthen the immune system not only to rejuvenate and restore the lost health but also to fight any foreign infections that a cancer survivor may be vulnerable to.

Additionally, here are a few tips for your breakfast, lunches and dinner. The goal of the diet for cancer patients is to include plenty of protein, refined flour and fibre content.

1.Breakfast Meal Options-

Since breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, expert oncologists recommend that they be filled with proteins to provide enough energy to go through the day.

Moong Dal Dosa, cauliflower parathas, methi parathas, oats Idli, peanut poha and Palak Puri are a few of the breakfast meal options to opt for.

2.Lunch Meal Options-

Lunches must be whole meals. Few options include Jowar roti and mixed vegetable curry, black bean curry and brown rice, bajra roti, wheat roti with lentils, and Khichdi or Dal Rice.

3.Dinner Meal Options-

For dinner, we would recommend lighter males that are easy to digest and high in fibre content.

Kadhi, ragi phulkas, bottle gourd curry, carrot thepla and mixed vegetable Upma are a few of the options for dinner.
