Hazel Kotu popularly known as Hazel Mahazard is a Pretoria-born and bred female DJ who is determined to let her little star shine within the South African entertainment scene. Her confidence exudes all the beauty. She is one of those DJs who had to trade her long days in the corporate jungle for long nights in the club to get that serious adrenaline kick.
The 27-year-old has proven to the world what passion is and how to take it forward. It is her consistency and grit that have always kept her going. Hazel Mahazard always knew the importance of building a solid brand, which she eventually achieved through constant hard work and persistence.
Hazel is a marketing graduate who obtained her BTech Degree from the Tshwane University of Technology in 2014. She then proceeded to the corporate space where she worked for about three years, gaining PR, marketing communications, advertising, promotions and IT experience.
She left the corporate world in 2019 to pursue her ambitions as an entrepreneur. Thereafter, she ventured into a number of businesses including a carpentry business, a DJing school, an online tv channel, a media consulting agency (1532 Entertainment), and being a DJ with the stage name "Hazel Mahazard". She has been a full-time DJ since 2018.
It was her education and experience that helped her build the brand Hazel Mahazard. She expresses herself as a person who is a go-getter DJ and entertainer extraordinaire who uses her passion for music and versatility to propel her career while providing entertainment to the people.
Hazel draws inspiration from Lamiez Holworthy, a popular South African DJ, businesswoman and philanthropist who has made a name for herself. Like her, Hazel also wants to make her name in this male-dominated industry. For this, she has also extended her skills by taking on a production where she released two singles Gavini featuring Sino Msolo and Pula with fellow DJ and Producer Shugacane. Music is Hazel Mahazard's happy place, she says.
Hazel is hopeful of a career where she will be able to strike a noteworthy balance between things that she loves and the things she is enthusiastic about. She wants to take things slowly and enjoy every bit of her success. She wants to be more private on social media and spend more time DJing. Recollecting her struggles in an all-male dominant industry, Hazel is slowly paving her way upward and rising like a star.
