Kindergarten Facilities Melbourne

The Victorian government encourages all children to attend a pre-school program before they start school (kindergarten) for one to two years. This is a vital part of their education and can help them develop important social, emotional and physical skills.

In 2023 all Victorian three and four year olds will receive 15 hours per week of free Three-Year-Old Kindergarten at participating services across the state. These services are staffed by qualified early childhood educators and provide a fun and stimulating learning environment where all children can thrive.

Kindergartens are a key part of children’s development and provide children with the skills they need to become life-long learners. They teach children to develop their sense of wonder and curiosity, build self-esteem and confidence, improve their language skills and foster their love of books and writing.

Kinder teachers are trained to develop and implement a wide range of activities that promote learning in the areas of literacy, numeracy, arts and creative thinking. They also teach children about the world and how to work with others.

The curriculum is child-led and includes a mixture of formal teacher-initiated activities such as investigations and projects and more informal play-based activities that allow children to develop their own interests and abilities. This enables them to expand their understanding of the world, build their self-esteem and confidence, develop their problem-solving and negotiation skills, and learn to work together with other children.
