Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden

Previously called Siraj Bagh or Model Foliage Center Indira Gandhi, who used to be India's prime minister, is honoured by having her name on the Tulip Garden in Srinagar (Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden).


The Srinagar Tulip Garden is near the foothills of the Zabarwan Mountains and looks out over the world-famous Dal Lake. It is 8 km from Srinagar's main city centre, Lal Chowk, 18 km from Srinagar International Airport, and 17 km from Srinagar Railway Station.


The garden is the largest Tulip garden in Asia. It is spread out over about 30 hectares. More than 1.5 million tulips of about 48 different kinds are in bloom. In Srinagar's Tulip Garden, you can also find ranunculus, hyacinths, daffodils, and a very rare tree called the Tulip Tree, which blooms at the same time as the tulips.


Tulips are thought to be the most delicate and sensitive flowers, and they can only grow in certain climates. At the end of March, the weather in Kashmir valley is just right for these flowers to bloom, and they are some of the first flowers to bloom in the Valley.


It was opened in 2007 by Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was then the Chief Minister of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The tulip garden was built to promote tourism and floriculture in Kashmir valley.


This seven-tiered garden will have a water channel and more green spaces so that visitors can enjoy their best garden memories.


There are many parts to the garden, and each part is designed by gardeners to be different. There are different kinds of Tulips in each section, such as strong gold, margaritas, candela, kung fu, early harvest, ile de france, etc.


Asia's biggest tulip garden has many modern features, such as free WiFi, fountains, bathrooms, an open-air cafeteria, and decorated stalls and kiosks.


Opening hours:

The garden is open every day from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm. Adults pay Rs.50 and children pay Rs.25 to get in. Most people go to the garden between 1:00 and 6:00. The public will be able to visit the Tulip Garden in Srinagar, Kashmir, starting on March 23, 2023. Farooq Ahmad Rather, who is in charge of the Floriculture Department, said on Thursday that the tulip garden will be open to the public starting on March 23.


Kashmir Tulip Festival

As part of the Bahaar-e-Kashmir event in Srinagar, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir hosts the Kashmir Tulip Festival every year in April to mark the start of the tourist season in Kashmir.


This festival is meant to bring more tourists to the valley of Kashmir. During this time, the government puts on cultural events, music shows, a food festival, and conferences for travel agents.

Botanical Garden

The closest attraction to the tulip garden in Srinagar is the Jawahar Lal Memorial Botanical Garden, which covers 197 acres and was built in 1969 in memory of former Indian Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru. In fact the two garden share same peripheral wall. It has about 150,000 ornamental plants and a huge collection of different kinds of oaks. It also has a rare group of tropical plants from Kashmir.


Cheshma Shahi

A ruminant of the Mughal period cheshma Shahi meaning Royal Springs is small and charming. It was set up for Emperor Shah Jahan by the Mughal Governor Ali Mardan Khan. 2.2 Kms away The Tulip Garden in Srinagar is five minutes by car from Cheashm Shahi. Shah Jahan built a pavilion and divided the Mughal garden into three 18-foot-high terraces. Cheshma Shahi is famous for the pure and refreshing spring that flows from it.


Pari Mahal

Pari Mahal, also from the Mughal era, is 3.8 km from Siraj Bagh on the same Cheshma Shahi Road. It is called the Palace of Farris. It is a seven-tiered garden that looks out over Dal Lake and the city of Srinagar.


Royal Springs Golf Course

Nishat Bagh

Nishat Bagh is a well-known tourist spot that is 3.3 km away on Boulevard Road. It was built in 1633 by Asif Khan, who was the older brother of Nur Jehan, who was Shah Jehan's wife. This terraced garden, whose name means "Garden of Happiness," has a beautiful view of the lake below the snow-capped Pir Panjal mountain range, which is far to the west of the valley.


Shalimar Bagh

Shalimar Bagh means "place where love lives." In 1619, Mughal Emperor Jahangir gave these gardens to his wife, Nor Jahan, as a gift. Shalimar Bagh, one of the largest Mughal gardens in the Kashmir valley, is just 6.2 km from the Boulevard Road and a 12-minute drive away. This beautiful garden is a must-see in Srinagar. It is a 31-acre (12.4-hectare) area on the eastern side of Kashmir's Dal Lake.


Zabarwan Park

Zabarwan Park is the newest park. It is 4 km from Tulip Garden and takes 6 minutes to drive there and back. The park is a good place to eat near Nehru Park in Srinagar. In the evening, folk singers from Kashmir perform live Kashmiri folk music here. The park also has a 3D cinema hall, plenty of parking, and many other amenities. You can stop by the park on your way back from another boulevard road tourist spot.
