Funding opportunities for study abroad can be found in a variety of places for international students. Before I mention some of my favorite sites, I want to first make a few important suggestions.

Ø Start your search well in advance of the application date; some grants require it. Planning ahead (a year or more) is essential if you want to study in a country other than your own. If you're like most students, you'll probably miss out on 95 percent or more of your possibilities because you waited until the last minute.

Ø You need to be an excellent student, have a compelling application, solid letters of recommendation, etc. to be a serious contender for financial aid.

Ø Third, research any potential financing opportunities thoroughly to ensure that you qualify for them (eligibility may be determined by industry, GPA, citizenship, age, and other factors).

Ø Fourth, graduate students have much more options than undergrads do; financing opportunities are highest at the doctoral level, then at the master's, and last at the bachelor's.

These are some useful tools and approaches for locating possibilities.

Ø Companies and other private organizations may provide grants, scholarships, and other forms of financial aid to students who choose to study abroad of their home country. A friend of mine, for instance, was fully funded by her employer so that she could earn an MBA in the United States.

Ø Scholarships Targeting a Certain Field of Study - There is an abundance of scholarship possibilities available to students pursuing degrees in specialized fields.

Ø You may be eligible for study abroad financing from your home country's government or from a national foundation. This is especially the case for nations seeking to significantly increase their financial commitment to education, which may include some Gulf states like Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, as well as other nations like Turkey, Colombia, and China.

Ø Check with government agencies, embassies, and multilateral organizations. Several nations have financial aid packages designed to entice students to study (for a semester, a year, or even longer) in their territory. The aforementioned organizations may prove helpful in your search for employment. Nonetheless, it wouldn't hurt to check out the education officers or offices of your country's embassy online, either. The foreign ministries of countries with robust economies and academic institutions are another valuable resource (some developing middle income countries have amazing programs to attract students). Many international organizations also run excellent initiatives.
