Advantages and Disadvantages of Technology in Agriculture

The Agricultural sector has been improved over the years due to the introduction of the technology

Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages caused to the agriculture sector due to the influence of technology in its performance.

Advantages of Modern Technology in Agriculture

These are the benefits which are accrued to the agriculture sectors as a result of the use of modern technology in the food production and animal rearing.

1. Efforts of the farmers are controlled

The farmers are able to use the machines available in the production of the crops and also in the rearing of the animals. This helps them to have control their work in the performance of the farms following a specific schedule.  Therefore, there will be less work done by the farmers because most of it is done by the machines. Henceforth the workforce of the farmers is limited in terms of the costs of labor payment.

2. Efficiency is Allowed

Time is well spent by the farmer when using modern technology in the farming sector. This means that most of the work will be done by the farm machine which is more efficient and effective than when using the manual way of doing g farming. For instance, the use of the tractors in the digging of the farms makes the work easy because it is fast and covers a large surface area when compared to the manual ways of cultivating the farms. Time therefore is created to the farmer for which allows him to concentrate on other activities which can reinforce the agricultural sectors.

3. Modern Technology Helps in The Supply of Water

The modern technology has been made in the manner that it can cater to the crop requirement in the various places of growth. For instance, the rice crop needs a lot of water for the growth and henceforth, irrigation technologies can be the best ways for the growth and development of the rice crop. Also, some crops may require a little amount of water in their growth, therefore, this means dehydrating of the waters will be aessential way for the requirement of the crop. Supply of water is the most essential factor in the growth and development of the crop and thus this technology has greatly supported the agriculture sectors more especially in dry areas.

4. Modern Technology Improves The Soil Fertility

Soil fertility is very essential for the growth of the crops. This is because the fertility helps in the improvement of the nutrients in the soil which then helps in the better growth of the crops. Through the introduction of the artificial fertilizers, most of the soils have been able to improve in terms of performance of the quality and quantity of the crop yields. Thus, through the improvement of this technology in agriculture, most of the people have been able to fed due to the increased yield and thus better economic development.

Disadvantages of The Modern Technology in Agriculture

These are the negative effects which have been associated in the agricultural sector as a result of the introduction of technology.  The agricultural sector has been affected in the following ways.

1. Financial Burden On the Farmer

The farmer is able to get a financial burden in the purchase of the fa rm tools which are modernized in the faster performance. The costs of maintaining the farm machines be comes high more especially when the farmer needs to work with it from time to time covering a huge number of activities. For instance, the farmer may incur some expenses in the maintenance of themilking tools which are essential in the milking process. Thus, this discourages some farmers from holding the modern technologies in the agricultural sectors. In addition to that, many farmers may have the interest to do the farming activities but lack sufficient skills on the use of some of the technologies which may lead to collapse of the farming system. Some of the farmers may be in situation of not knowing the ways of operating the technological machines which then may bar them from the usage or may result to the destruction of the machines and thus leads to the extra expenses.

2. Modern Technology Creates Health Problems

Most of the people today are fearing on the consumption of the food crops which come from the green houses. This is because, there is large amount ofthe pesticides and herbicides used. This has caused the health problem to the human consumption o f the drugs direct from the crops and hence has become a great threat to the diseases such as cancer, diabetes and among the others.
