What are the different kinds of clothing labels?

A label is a piece of paper, card or any metal that is attached to the surface of the product. This is a type of tag that is used to give a variety of information to customers. Clothing labels are usually attached to the cloth with the help of some sort of adhesive or can be printed, woven or embroidered with cotton or polyester threads on the edge of textile material. The labels can be permanent as well as temporary. The permanent labels remain longer like printing of text on the selvedge of material while some are temporary that get removed after one or two washes. 

Labels are one of the best sources in which brands communicate with the end customers. They give the general information about the cloth material, care instructions, fibre content, name and address of the company or brand to the consumer. Labels create satisfaction in the minds of purchasers. Labels are also considered as a tangible and visible form of reminder for the purchasers.

Information labels

These labels are used to provide information regarding fibre content, yarn type and other information. This is used to give information about the ingredients and manufacturing processes so that consumer can choose the particular material according to his/her needs. For example, if a specific material is a blend of cotton and nylon. Those purchasers who are allergic to nylon material will be well informed from the label that this garment shall not be suitable for him. Hence, the foremost importance of such labels is safeguarding the customers from getting harm.

The information labels are also used to indicate the information about manufacturer or retailer regarding his name, address, contact number or location etc. so, helps an individual or industrial consumer wishes to access him.

The information regarding different sizes of garments is also printed on the labels like S for small, M for medium, L for large, XL for extra large and more. Or sometimes they are written in the form of numbers that indicate the particular sizes like 10, 11, 12 etc.

 

Care labels 

These labels are regulated under the Federal Trade Commission. Care labels are used to guide the purchaser of the care instructions related to its maintenance like washing, drying, bleaching, ironing etc. These instructions are vital because while purchasing the garment, one has to calculate the care requirements, for example, the garments that require dry cleaning adds much cost to the customer as compared to those garments that can be easily hand-washed under ordinary washing conditions.

Brand labels

Brand labels hold a logo defining the company’s name. These labels are designed so well by using all creative techniques in design, colour, pattern and printing because they also act as a promotional medium.

People have now become more and more brand conscious hence, the labels work as an effective and budgeted way of advertising a product to the customer. People always look for this label because this creates a positive or negative brand image in the minds of customers.

Examples are Levis, Marks n Spenser, Giordano, Next, Calvin Klein etc. It shows the distinctiveness of a brand from its competitors in the market. Many a time these labels act as a major reason for a customer to buy any product. It helps to create and maintain customer’s association with the company.
