Gujarat Newsline latest report: 6 killed, 20 hospitalized after poisonous gas leak

In Gujarat, six people have been killed and about 20 people admitted to hospitals in Surat due to leakage of poisonous gas. According to Gujarat Newsline, the gas is said to have leaked from an unidentified tanker that hit the workers working in a nearby printing mill. The condition of eight persons is said to be very critical and they are on ventilators.


The accident occurred while emptying a chemical tanker 


The incident took place near The World Love Dying and Printing Mill in Surat. According to the report, an unidentified person was emptying chemicals from a tanker in a drain a short distance from the mill at night. Meanwhile, poisonous gas started leaking from the tanker which soon reached the employees of the printing mill. The employees fainted and six died due to the impact of the gas.


CM expresses grief over the incident


Gujarat chief minister Bhupinder Patel expressed grief over the incident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. He said, "many people have died due to gas leakage in Surat. May God give peace to the departed souls and give their families the strength to bear this suffering. I wish the people who fell ill in the incident a speedy recovery. Gujarat home minister Harsh Sanghvi also expressed grief over the incident.


Lok sabha speaker, Rahul Gandhi, and Shivraj Singh also expressed grief over the incident


Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla has also expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the incident. Terming the deaths as unfortunate, he said, "may God give peace to the departed souls and empower the family to bear this trauma. I wish the people who were unwell in this incident a good deal. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan have also expressed grief over the incident.


Who was the unknown driver?


According to Gujarat Newsline reports, an unidentified truck driver was pouring poisonous chemicals into the drain and suddenly the gas leaked. Police are collecting all this information as to who this truck driver was, why he was doing it and which company he was from. It is completely illegal to put such poisonous chemicals in the drain. According to reports, people affected by the accident work and stay inside the mill every day and fall asleep. Police are on the spot and investigating and may issue a statement soon.


Superintendent-in-charge of the hospital Dr. Omkar Chaudhary declared the death of six people and 20 others admitted to the civil hospital in a gas leak at a company of Surat in the wee hours in a cloth factory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The incident took place at the huge fabric unit of the chiral group at Dhokla in Ahmedabad. However, the gas leak could not be ascertained in that accident.


Employees killed in gas leak in the past


In July last year, four workers of a factory were killed when poisonous gas leaked in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The majors were cleaning a chemical tanker and during this time poisonous gas leaked and this tragic situation happened. Earlier in January 2021, At the Rourkela steel plant in Odisha, this same kind of situation occurred. And the death of four employees has been declared.
