For Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1, here’s how to repair the never-ending recovery console loop.

This problem prohibits you from accessing anything on your computer and causes Recovery Console to load in an eternal loop.

One or more of the following factors have been linked to this error:

Cause 1: Failed Automatic Update

Failed Windows Updates or Automatic Updates that include an update or upgrade of the core Windows bootloader files (specifically, BOOTMGR) may cause the PC to fail to boot.

Cause 2: Out of date recovery console

Microsoft Windows setup or your PC’s computer manufacturer/OEM can install the recovery console on the local partition on Windows 7 and higher.

An out-of-date recovery console installed on the local disk may be unable to fix faults with a recently updated Windows installation (either manually with hotfixes or automatically by Windows Update).

As a result, the recovery console cannot fix the problem once it is launched, and the infinite recovery console loop appears.

A BSOD may occur every time Windows tries to boot. Recent versions of Windows are set up to hide this information from the user and reboot silently. 1

If a BSOD occurs during boot up, a version of the Advanced Boot Options menu will appear on the next reboot. However, if the recovery console is installed on the local drive, the default will be to highlight/select “Repair Your Computer,” resulting in the recovery console looping indefinitely.
