Top Things You Should Know About Manufactured Homes

Inflation and student loans are preventing many people from buying a house. There's also the high demand for housing. These reasons are also pushing homeowners to take another look at manufactured homes.

Many millennials believe a manufactured home is their best chance to be a homeowner. Meanwhile, many boomers are considering it as a great way to downsize. There are a lot of things you should know before you buy a manufactured home though.

They’re not called that anymore at least. A manufactured home is now defined as factory-built housing. It’s delivered to a specific area and installed in that location. This type of structure was then called a mobile home. But the HUD Code has changed that. It declared that all housing built in factories is now called manufactured homes. This only covers those made after June 1976.

The term mobile home also doesn’t apply to these structures. After all, they’re only mobile during the initial transport. Once it's installed, the home remains on the property.

A manufactured home and a modular home are two different structures. They do share certain characteristics. The main components of both homes are all made and assembled at a factory. They’re then shipped to their destination.

A manufactured home is also attached to a trailer. It’s then transported whole to the homeowner’s property. The structure will remain on that frame even after installation. But a modular home is always bought to the site in pieces. Linked together, it this then assembled on the property.
