For quite a long time, SMRT has been one of the integral modes of transportation for daily commuters of Singapore. The comfortable, convenient, and cost-effective way of transportation helps people of all age groups to make their daily travel simple and hassle-free. Helmed under the influential leadership of the SMRT Chairman and SMRT CEO, this advanced public transportation means to bridge the gap between people and varied destinations in Singapore. Not just providing traveling comfort, SMRT is further known for its safe traveling experience along with round-the-clock surveillance at all train stations. Here in this article, we highlight how Bukit Panjang Light Rapid Transit (LRT) has rolled out new security features infused with AI-powered cameras that function across 13 different stations and track incidents efficiently.

New iSafe System at Bukit Panjang LRT

As part of the advanced security measure adopted by SMRT Corporation to ensure the traveling safety of millions of passengers, it has newly launched the iSafe System at Bukit Panjang LRT. This security system features various crystal clear cameras installed powered with Artificial Intelligence technology to capture video as well as audio to provide real-time updates. This security system helps provide required alerts regarding intrusions on the train stations and platforms and information regarding people staying close to the edge of the platform. The iSafe System further provides required alerts and warning signs to detect any mishappening and stop the same with ease. This particular system has been introduced to further extend the security feature of doors at the platform that open for passengers only after the train arrives. The AI-enabled security system provides round-the-clock safety features and threat detection to the control room.

How Does the iSafe System Work?

It is relevant to understand the working phenomenon of the iSafe System at LRT. It works when any person loiters around the "Keep Clear" section. It automatically transmits the threat to the Operations Control Centre (OCC) and other staff members, who will take strict action against the same. Even if someone can be seen intruding on the track, then an alert announcement will be made at the train station and ensure security to an optimum level. Also, security cameras take regular screenshots of the situation and provide further alerts to the control room.

Also, keep in mind that the all-new iSafe System was introduced to fill up the previous security-specific gaps. Earlier, professionals at the command center had to look at round-the-clock running security cameras to detect threats. Now, with the introduction of the iSafe System, there will be automatic threats detected, and announcements will be made to ensure traveling safety. Moreover, the iSafe System is thoroughly tested based on different parameters and achieved an approximately 99.8% intrusion detection rate.

Conclusion

SMRT helps daily commuters to experience affordable and comfortable travel experience with no hassle at all. Even from a safety perspective, SMRT adopted several security measures to protect the well-being of millions of passengers. A similar kind of safety addition has been made at the Bukit Panjang LRT.
